pretty good i guess

by cescpistols

We went one day when we had an extended lunch break, because this place is never open. Read lots of reviews and this place came highly recommended. My friend and I were so hungry we decided to split a roast pork sandwich while waiting in line for the cheesesteak. The roast pork is absolutely incredible. I have nothing bad to say about it. As far as the cheesesteak, it was ok. I might have been bias after eating the roast pork first, but it was a bit of a letdown. It is pretty big and well priced, but I didn't really feel like I was eating something that deserved all this hype. But the roast pork is sensational.

  • Pros: good service, not bad location
  • Cons: the hours (only weekdays, closed at 3 pm)

John's Best Cheesesteak in Philly

by jafcot

This is the place the local Philly people go that know good sandwiches. The cheesesteak, Italian pork and beef are the best sandwiches in town. If you are a tourist you can go see drunks and uniformed tourists at Pats and Geno's eating terrible quailty sandwiches because of hype and reputations that have long since past. Take a quick look, snap your pictures, and then get to John's to eat the best cheesesteak in Philly.

Superior pig sandwiches at this roadside attraction.

In Short
John's opens at the crack of dawn to service the waterfront's working people, offering all manner of egg and meat sandwiches. The real magic happens at lunchtime: The namesake roast pork sandwich is juicy and peppery, sliced thin and served on a Kaiser roll with sharp prvolone, gravy soaking the roll. The cheese steak is nothing to sniff at, with a seeded roll crisply encasing perfectly seasoned beef and American cheese.
