TLA and it's line.

I've been to the TLA numerous times, and I do enjoy the venue. I love that the stage and crowd are set up close together. One of the biggest perks of the TLA, as mentioned before, it is on South Street. So you can go down early to hang out, or after the show grab a late, late dinner. However, I like to wait in line all day to get front row- and their line is horrible. You get sent to an alley about 10 stores away from the TLA. When the doors open, you have to run to the front of the TLA to get in first. Even being first in line gives you no guarantee you will be in the front row. Usually security comes down to settle the line, but it is always a challenge to keep your spot throughout the day. Overall, once inside the TLA, it is great, and I will continue to see shows there. Even if I have to deal with all of the line competition!

Great Venue in a Great Part of Town

The TlA is the perfect place to see a show in Philly. They book tons of amazing bands. The sound is good and the staff is friendly. Also it is right in the middle of south street so you can get great food or a drink before and after the show. Go to the TLA.

The weekend punks and sidewalk squatters gathered under the marquee of this South Street spot are a steady if somewhat annoying reminder that South Street used to be a vibrant meeting place for the counter-culture movement of the '70s and '80s. As the area grows increasingly mainstream, the TLA ensures that South Street will always be a place to get a healthy dose of diverse music.

One of the best!

I don't know what those two people were talking about... The TLA is a great place to see a live show and I've been to shows in NYC, DC, Kentucky, Trenton, New Brunswick, etc, etc, etc. The place is small enough to be intimate and big enough to be able to see the band from anywhere in the place. Plus, it's right on South Street, in a safe area, so getting a drink before or after is tres convenient (NOT at all residential!). And they always book the greatest bands. I have so many good memories from so many amazing shows - and I could hear every one of them. Go see a show at the TLA, you won't regret it, unless the band stinks!

Terrible Location

They form a line along a residential street. The crowd is full of litter buggs. The Theatre does nothing for the residents. It is a horrible business and place to go.

My, how things have changed.

The sound is great if you mean extremely loud. Unable to hear an intelligible word or lyric. Very crowded with folks yakking to each other and on the phone. Smoking on the entire floor was choking and hazardous. I'm not sure how I thought it was a no smoking venue. If I had known, I would have passed on the show. Pretty difficult to get your groove on.

Rockin South Street

I saw the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Edwin MCCAin at the TLA. I had the best time. Would recommend going there to anyone I know. Everyone gets along. The sound is great.

Down to Basics

With the music industry taking turns for the worse with MTV and other so called promotional tools for lifting pop culture into annoyance, the TLA adds a sort of reminder of how music should be felt. Musicians seem more personal and their music sounds like it is meaningful when they play at the TLA.
