Best Hoagies in the City!
by bethsoda
'nuff said - my favorite is the turkey. The bread is fantastic too - just be sure to get there before they run out - yes, they are THAT popular!
- Pros: The food, the people, the location (right by the italian market)
- Cons: Sometimes they run out of bread and you are without a hoagie - tragic...

Good Eats

Sarcone's is known throughout Philadelphia as one of the top delis in the city. Expect a great sandwich on their famous bread, piled high with meats and cheeses.
Come early, or you'll likely miss out on the chicken cutlet, pork, roast beef, etc.
You can also go down the street to Sarcone's Bakery and pick up all of your fresh bread for the week.
- Pros: Food
- Cons: limited seating
A bakery that gives you this day your daily bread--and then fills it with the best of the Italian Market.

In Short
Meat and cheese slicers flank a sandwich assembly line. While sandwich builders construct, the foreman takes orders at the cashier. Sarcone's bread is famous in Philly: it's soft, dense and chewy--perfect for sopping up flavors exuded from sandwiches doused in vinegar, oil and dried herbs. The menu calls them hoagies, but these local delicacies aren't your typical corner-store subs. Try hefty combinations that go by names like "the Booch:" roast beef, asparagus, sharp provolone.
best hoagie ever

If you ever get to Philly, this is the spot for hoagies. Period. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better one elsewhere. My personal favorite is the Sarcone Special. Proscuitto, sharp provolone, roasted red peppers, garlic, olive oil and vinegar. The best.
Gut busting value

A giant sandwich of yummy delicious Italian goodness on an excellent roll - these sandwiches are huge. Usually you can get a good two meals out of it and it's so tasty! Recommend calling ahead - or if you risk the wait, at least you can perch on the stoop and watch the afternoon go by.
- Pros: Good value, Huge & Delicious, Reliable
Nothing Better
by jesabatini
Nothing even comes close to this sandwich place and no one has better bread. It may not be the most heart smart menu, but you only live once. The Old Fashoned is the best of the best, but there isn't a bad sandwich there, just my favorite.
