This place was awful
by Lynn516 at Citysearch
When I visited Philadelphia today my friend said you must go to Jim's Steaks. I was amazed when I saw the long lines and smelled the aroma of the cooking. I have eaten cheesesteaks all my life so I feel I know a good one from a bad one. Jim's Steak unfortunately was a bad one. First it arrived with little meat. The cheesesteak was completely tasteless and so bland that I had to eat it together with potato chips just to get the taste of salt to possibly blend with this tasteless sandwich. In addition the staff were placing tomatoes in containers without any gloves. In fact I observed staff eating food with their fingers as they served customers. Not the most sanitary place. It is one thing if you come here just because you see the long lines but if you are a repeat customer and really feel this place is any good.....then you have to wonder are your taste buds awake or asleep. The whole experience has made me want to be a vegetarian.
- Pros: Absolutely None
- Cons: Taste, Price and the Long Lines
Umm??

I was visiting from LA and hadn't been in Philly for awhile and much to my surprise I've ordered cheesesteaks in California that were 10 times better than this. The workers were all rude, didn't put enough cheese whiz on my steak and charged me out the ***. If you're visiting Philly, do Pat's or Geno's, but stay away from this dump.
- Pros: The upstairs was kind of cool
- Cons: Employees looked like they were all on work release
Rude Service, Moody Employees
by niksiz at Citysearch
The service at this dump is downright rude and indifferent. The lazy employees have an attitude problem and don't care about friendly service with a smile.
Save your money and go somewhere else that appreciates your business.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Rude Service, Mediocre Cheesesteaks, Overpriced
Wawa Has Better Sammiches

Don't listen to the people giving this place four or five stars. It's garbage and the people who work there are miserable. If I want to get yelled at by people serving me food I'll commit a crime and go to jail instead. Oh, the cheesesteaks that people rave about? A big, fat, meh.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Miserable employees, mediocre cheesesteaks.
Baaad service...ok cheese steak
by beeeebas at Citysearch
The cheese steak was good. But wt really bothered me was the service. It was a a big black guy cooking and treated me and my friend visiting from Europe like craap. His attitude overshadowed the whole experience. He was also cooking with no gloves and touching our food with his unclipped and dirty fingernails. All I know is that, its customers that keep that place open, they should at least be polite and grateful for that. BAAD service, think again before going.......
Pretty bad

Unless you are the type who likes dry, gristly steaks in a tourist-trap type of atmosphere, Jim's Steaks should not be one of your destinations. There's not much positive to say here, unless you like looking at photos on the wall, because that's about all the place has going for it. Philly has much better options as far as cheesesteaks go...do yourself a favor and head elsewhere!
Not worth the wait nor the price.

Our family was very disappointed. We waited for absolutely nothing. I can make a better cheesesteak. The onions and mushrooms did not even help; you need to season your meat.
- Pros: ABSOLUTELY NONE
- Cons: LONG WAIT, TOO EXPENSIVE, AND VERY LIMITED SEATING
Overrated

The best part of the Jim's experience is the smell that the kitchen vents eject onto South Street.
The problem with Jim's is that it became too well-known. Their meat is made in mass quantities, and often sits on the grill for up to an hour before it's actually put into a steak. This makes it far too tough and chewy, and tends to cook all of the flavor out of the meat. The peppers are also not traditional hot or sweet peppers, but soggy and overcooked bell peppers.
Jim's may have once had some of the best steaks in Philly, but not anymore.
- Pros: Name, Location
- Cons: , long line, bad peppers
The WORST Steak in Philly

Not Enough Cheese Wiz, Meat was Dry. Overall it was the worst Cheesesteak I have ever eaten
Not Worth The Hype
by achap3 at Citysearch
It was recommended while on vacation and crowded, which was OK if food is good. But the servers VERY RUDE to the point of being obnoxious. Cheesesteaks were bland and not very tasty. Not worth the hype or the wait.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Good Location, Portion Size
- Cons: Rude Servers, Limited Seating, Cleanliness
