Pretty bad
by bluehensfan at Citysearch
Unless you are the type who likes dry, gristly steaks in a tourist-trap type of atmosphere, Jim's Steaks should not be one of your destinations. There's not much positive to say here, unless you like looking at photos on the wall, because that's about all the place has going for it. Philly has much better options as far as cheesesteaks go...do yourself a favor and head elsewhere!

My first ever "real" philly cheesesteak experience occured during my visit to the city last week. I went to Jim's based on it's "Best Of' award and was somewhat dissappointed. I can't say that the sandwich was bad but it certainly did not live up to the life-long hype. I only wish I had enough time to try a different restaurnat before I left town. I am desperate to experience the delicious philly Cheesesteak I have always heard about.
- Pros: "Best of Cheesesteaks" Winner
- Cons: Not all that...
Best cheesesteak in Philly

Jim's is the best! Even better than Gino's or Pat's. Not to mention nicer staff (even if rudeness is part of the experience)

The Best Philly Cheesesteak
by sillymonkey916 at Citysearch
I went to Philly a few weeks ago with my friends for a mini-vacation. We definitely had to try the cheesesteaks! We've eaten at Geno's, Pat's and Jim's. Geno's steak didn't have enough flavor and Pat's was only a little bit better. My friends drenched their steaks from Geno's and Pat's in ketchup and mayo. I like my steaks as is - greasy in it's cheesy-fried onion goodness. None of the two top dogs measure up to Jim's in flavor and quality. One of the cooks was slightly rude to some of the customers but I had a nastier time at Pat's, who didn't even wrap my steak up like Jim's who gives you the full service! We were all happy the most with JIM'S! We even had lunch and each brought one home with us as dinner on our last day in Philly. It is worth the money! Don't throw away your money at Geno's or Pat's (all the steaks are around 7 bucks each for anywhere decent so spend that 7 on a definite winner!). You will see why Jim's is the local favorite. Stop by Rita's Water Ice too if you want a fantastic frozen treat! I'm want some cheesesteaks now!!!! *drools*
- Pros: Cheesesteaks! I wanna eat one NOW!
- Cons: Wasting my money at Pat's and Geno's
Not worth the wait nor the price.

Our family was very disappointed. We waited for absolutely nothing. I can make a better cheesesteak. The onions and mushrooms did not even help; you need to season your meat.
- Pros: ABSOLUTELY NONE
- Cons: LONG WAIT, TOO EXPENSIVE, AND VERY LIMITED SEATING
This cheesesteak joint is not only a critical part of Philadelphia's atmosphere, it's also a local treasure.

In Short
This Philadelphia institution is considered a front-runner in the great cheesesteak debate. That's why customers line up on its noxiously sanitized sidewalks at all hours. The steaks ooze grease, which seeps into the roll and makes the entire sandwich a mind-blowing experience. Make sure to get fried onions on top, and don't try to sound well-heeled by ordering some kind of facy cheese like provolone. Jim's famous cheez wiz will do perfectly fine.
The Best!

I've only been in Philly a few years, but I've had many cheesesteaks. I will take Jim's all day long over the others.
Just sayin'
- Pros: food
- Cons: the line
smell tat...

I can smell the cheesesteak from a block away. It's one of my favorite place to get cheesesteak in Philly. I wouldn't go there on the weekends tho. The line is real long. I like the way they chopped up my steaks. It's not as bad as some ppl say. Maybe it's my own preferences. They could put more wiz on it tho.
