A cute old fashioned Italian place
by Kittar
My husband and I came here for a lovely eveing just the 2 of us to enjoy our anniversary and we had a splended time. The food was authentic and warm and served on time. They give you very big portions and the price wasn't too bad either. The atmosphere was delightful and old worldly. The bar was a bit expensive I would advise byob. The servers were ok but nothing above and beyond. All around it was a great evening out the veal was amazing and my husbands muscles were delious. We had a wonderful time and would love to go back and here more stories about this historic place.
Bring a Lot of Chash

I went here with business associates. The food was fantastic and the service was quite attentive. That said, the restaurant takes NO CREDIT CARDS. The no credit card policy brings this from a 5 star to 3 because the food is in no way cheap. Not taking credit cards is a big inconvenience. Parking is a pain but they do provide a valet (not very fast but he did park the car).

Okay, so I was staying next door to the restaurant in a B&B, and I'd read about the Nicky Scarfo Jr. mob "attention" (unsuccessful, I might add) on Halloween 1989, so I wanted to experience a true South Philly Italian eatery with a "past". I got over that quickly once I sat down. The wait staff was attentive without being obtrusive, and my $34 (including salad, pasta, and one wine) got me two dinners' worth, and a good dinner at that. Personally, I don't get too excited when someone calls pasta sauce "red gravy", as long as it's good. And this certainly was good. Soft music in the background and an Italian "undercurrent" (or was that my imagination?) lent themselves to a very nice experience. Naysayers and purists aside, this one is worth a trip.
- Pros: ambience
- Cons: parking could be a problem
Best Italian Food Anywhere.
by NYPJS
My wife and I eat out at least once a week. Are were both from New York and living in central NJ typicall go to Manhattan for dinner. Last summer we decided to go to Philadelphia for a change of pace and selected Dante & Luigi based on internet reviews.
We could not have been happier. It is truly one of, if not the best, Italian restaurants we have even been to. Yes, it is a little expensive and you need to bring cash but definately worth it. I have been recommending this restaurant to friends and cannot wait to return.
Service was courteous and food was GREAT! It is a must.
- Pros: Great food courteous staff
- Cons: Parking limited cash required
AMAZING ITALIAN FOOD IN PHILLY!
by larmack
Funny thing ? I came on here to write a great review for Dante and Luigi?s because I eat there all the time and have recommend it successfully to a lot of out of town travelers and I read the slanderous review below. WOW, nothing can be further from the truth. I have only have exceptional service and amazing food there for the past 10+ years. The hostess and I on a first name basis and everyone from the bus-boys to the waiters have treated me great. Not to mention that the food is second to none! I have never had better Italian food anywhere! Don?t let one bad apple with an axe to grind stop you from visiting this fine restaurant. Take it from someone who knows good food and service ? Dante and Luigi?s is a winner!
Very Pricey, ok food

We went here because my sister choose to. I would never pick a place that was this expenisve. My mixed drink was $8. The lamb stew was delicious. If you go be prepared to pay at least $50 a person for dinner, drink and appetizer. I do not think that I will be returning I just don't have that kind of money. Also remember to take enough cash, they do not take credit cards.
Italian at its finest!!!!!!

My husband and I go out to eat at least once a week and we have tried to go to new restaurants or ones we have never tried. But we find that we seem to always end up at Dante and Luigi's. We have realized that its the delicious, mouth watering "like home" food and the great service that just keeps pulling us back.
To tell you the truth I could eat there every nite.
- Pros: Saturday nite valet
- Cons: Make a reservation on the weekend, why chance missing a good thing
Not worth the $$$$$
by 923pine
This place is cash only so make sure you bring plenty of money because the lasagna is 18 bucks and that doesn't include a salad. A glass of wine is over 7 bucks. The food is OK, but I have had better for much less and the decor and service also leaves something to be desired. If you have more money than you know what to do with make sure you ask for a table that is NOT in the bar - it has linoleum floors and looks like someone?s garage.
- Pros: OK food
- Cons: Overpriced
Great old time Italian, white tablecloth restaurant

Dante & Luigi's is a superb place to go when you really have a jones for some traditional Italian-American fare. The service is always highly attentive and can border on being a bit overbearing. But the food is always enjoyable and it is always a pleasant place to go.
- Pros: Attentive service, great standard fare, nice ambiance
- Cons: Can be a tad pricey
OutRageous Price Gougers
by jolin68
This was the worst italian restaurant I have ever eaten at. And we have been to many many many in Philadelphia. The food was below average. I have had better in the "Chain" places. Also, the bar tab was ridiculous. Where can you find below average foodthat is very moderately priced and then have an after dinner cordial for 11.67? Dante & Luigi's. We were a party of six had a good evening until we got the bill. At the bottom of the bill was $70. We assumed that they had added gratuity. But the waiter came back and said that that was actually our last round of limoncello. Did they buy gold lemons when they made that??? $70 for six little shots of lemon and sugar???? When six people eat pasta that cost around $17 - $25 have 2 glasses of wine and and after dinner cordial - The bill should not be $500. This joint is run by thieves.
