My friend and I went to dinner last Saturday, and arrived at Latest Dish at about eight pm. We walked in and were almost immediately greeted and seated. The place is small but friendly, the decor is trendy/cute, and there were people milling around, all comfortable. We were seated next to the bathroom door, which made me think of the review here that mentioned the bathroom location. =) The waitress came over right away, and we ordered a bottle of wine, some appetizers, and dinner. I ordered tea, which was the most awkward part of the night: she made a big deal about bringing over a big box full of tea, from which I was to choose whichever bag I wanted. This was to be put into the small mug of hot water she had brought over. I thought this was a little annoying; just ask me what kind of tea I want! Anyway, I ordered spring rolls and seitan meatloaf with mash, and my friend ordered duck egg rolls and scallops. Delicious! The wine was great, and not too too over priced. We ordered fried plantains for dessert, which were great except for the mint on them. All in all it was excellent and I am definitely going back.
Pros: awesome food, good vegetarian options, fairly priced wine
Cons: weird tea service!

My husband and I are food fanatics and this is our signature restaurant. It is full of funk, romance, and ambiance all at the same time. Appetizers...crab and cheese wontons...the best!!! We love the filet mignon over mashed potatoes and spinach. The macaroni and cheese...feel good food! The sea bass is amazing too!! I can't rave enough about this treasure of a restaurant. I recommend it to everyone. Once you go you will be hooked.
Pros: see the chefs at work, great bar & music, sexy atmosphere
Cons: a little tight

Food is GREAT and very reasonably priced. I also get the feeling that the food is "home-made" and locally purchased. I always get the chicken tacos, mac&cheese or the specials. Great selection of bottled beer and the service is just perfect, the staff is really friendly. I live in the area and have been here numerous times and they never dissappoint. You have to try it.

I've been to this restaurant several times and it never gets old.. The food is excellent and I have to believe they have the best wings in the city not to mention their signature "macaroni and cheese "dish style. Although I'm not a fan of calamari my friends couldn't stop raving about it and even convinced me to try it I fell in love with the taste ... GREAT FOOD!!
Pros: great food, nice ambience, low key
Cons: small space

I am here in Philly for a 4-day conference, and I happened to stumble into The Latest Dish. The menu was inventive and interesting, and I was in cloud nine when I tasted my dishes. I ordered the duck spring roll and the grilled tilapia with avocado and beans. THe duck spring rolls were nothing like the same-o spring rolls I've had before, since the tender duck meat and the hoisin sauce gave them a sweet and unconventional kick. As for the grilled tilapia, I've never have a fish fillet that was evenly salted all over. Most of the times when I order fish elsewhere, the middle part is usually blander than the thinner parts or the ends, but this fillet was flavorful every single bite I've had. Ah, if only I live in Philly...
Pros: Inventive menu, Tasty food, Nice atmosphere
Cons: Smoking, A bit loud

Two words describe the Latest Dish: Must try. Their unique salads are absolutely delicious - particurlarly the carmelized pear salad as well as the spinach, almond, and caper salad. Despite the fact that the Latesh Dish is usually quite busy for dinner, the wait staff remains prompt and friendly. The filet dinner is to die for - everything about it is nothing short of sheer perfection. This is a place that I bring friends and relatives to experience whenever I have visitors in Philly. For the quality of food and service, the price is extremely moderate. On your next trip to South Street, take a short detour to 4th Street for the Latest Dish.. You will not regret it!
Pros: Service, Food Quality, Moderate Pricing
Cons: , = not an easy task

It's called the Latest Dish, but I think they should rename to the Greatest Dish! Their food is absolutely amazing! Start with the mussels, they are truly wonderful, and don't pass up the bread served with roasted garlic olive oil and some hot pepper seeds. My boyfriend and I go here once a month just to eat the best Filet Mignon we have ever had. I'm not exaggerating either, we've eaten in some of the city's best restaurants, yet when we want a guaranteed good meal, we go to the Latest Dish. The filet is served over sauteed spinach in garlic and an absolutely amazing chunk of au gratin potatoes! You have to try it to believe it! Service at the bar is great, fast and efficient, plus no wait, so that's where I would recommend sitting! Enjoy your meal.
Pros: FILET MIGNON, AU GRATIN POTATOES, MUSSELS
Cons: DJ is sort of loud

LOW - KEY... was one of the best places to eat. the service was exceptional. the ambiance was for everyone (excpet maybe sour puss's and frat boys)...the food was far above exceptional. thank you...
Pros: cooks are in view, tasty, good location
