Excellent Gym, Classes, and Trainers!

by RiVting

There's always room for me on the machines or in classes. They have a lot of good instructors and trainers. I've gotten into the best shape of my life in the shortest amount of time and actually enjoyed it. The place is a little utilitarian but there aren't alot of grunters or groupies. There's also none of the pressure to buy bogus products like in certain chain gyms. The music in the morning is great.

  • Pros: Good music, lots of machines, excellent instructors&trainers
  • Cons: No Frills

Dont join! Not worth the money.

by Brandon2121321

For $60/month you get:

- Dirty equipment

- 2 stationary bikes (they have 4 but god for bid you try to use the two bikes that are over 10 years old and hurt your a$$).

- not nearly enough cardio equipmnent

- out dated classes

- and TV's that only carry public channels. God for bid if you want to watch ESPN, you cant. no ESPN? are you serious?

- did I say that there were two stationary bikes?

* If this doesnt convince you to join I dont know what will. Again save your money! Save your money and join somewhere else.

must have gone downhill

by lskdjf

this is not the worst gym ever but for the price of a membership it is ridiculous. i have two major probems with the gym. first, the room where they hold classes is absolutely disgusting--the floor looks like it is never cleaned (and we are often expected to work out barefoot. and none of the equiptment is ever wiped down after use, i have never seen a spray bottle and towels in there (this includes weights, mats, etc.) so everythign smells terrible. im pretty sure this probabaly goes agaist health codes too. Also, while it is very nice that each treadmill, elliptical, etc has a tv on it, it is almost pointless if the only channels they get are whyy and 4 spanish channels. For 60 dollars a month they should all have AT LEAST basic cable. I cant believe im paying this much to go there i wouldnt recommend this gym to anyone, if the location wasnt so convenient for me i would have never signed up.

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: dirty, terrible value

GREAT LOCAL GYM

by tony82

I joined Sweat Manayunk in Dec 06', after moving back to the Philly area from L.A.. I have worked out at a lot of different gyms my whole life. This is one of the best, most complete fitness centers I have ever been to. This gym offers the most amenities for your buck with group fitness included in the price. I mainly use the free weights, but sometimes take their yoga classes or spinning classes. The Gym is alway organized, and the staff is always helpfull and friendly. Great gym!

  • Pros: Precor freeweights, Yoga, Spinning, Clean, Organized.
  • Cons: None.

GREAT FITNESS CLUB! AWESOME GYM!

by aj1977

I have worked out at other gyms in Philly and this one is by far the best. They offer so many different options for fitness. I bounce between the HammerStrength to the Freeweights to the machines. I top off my workout with either the Ergometer or the Stepmill. The facilities are immaculate. The weights are always well organized and accessable. Monday is my favorite, because they have a fun DJ.

Thank you SWEAT!!!!!

  • Pros: Modern gym...Awesome equipment....Attractive females
  • Cons: Wish they had a VERSACLIMBER.

Taking Edison's 99 percent perspiration theory to a whole new level.

In Short
With dozens of treadmills, eliptical trainers and other cardio favorites, along with a sizable weight training area, Sweat does big business with folks looking for traditional fitness programs. Want something a little more interesting? Check out the group class schedule, which offers high-energy workouts like hip-hop cardio, ashtanga yoga and the trampoline-based urban rebounding.

WORKOUT AT SWEAT!!!!!

by jticonni

I moved to Philly from NYC for business a year ago. I live in Manayunk and work in Center city. I had 2 gym memberships in NYC. One for the weights and machines; and one for the group fitness and spinning.

After moving to philly I was afraid that I would not be able to find a Gym like what I had in NYC. I initially tried out the Sweat Fitness in Manayunk by my house. It blew me away. First, 90% of there equipment is brand new. Second, the facility is immaculate including there locker rooms. What sold me was that they offer an all inclusive package of Icarian free weights/ machines, Precor treadmills and elyptical trainers, a room complete of Hammerstrength equipment, and a well rounded group fitness program which includes spinning. The best part of the membership is that it offers an all inclusive package. I can workout at any of the locations and participate in any of the group fitness without paying extra. It's all included in one price.

Sometimes, I workout at the Center City location after work.

I enjoy these gyms very much. They offer everything I look for in a membership. As long as I stay in Philly, I will remain a member of these Sweat.

  • Pros: Great atmosphere, equipment, cardio classes
  • Cons: Parking can be challenging at times.
