by jahvinson
This is the place to order your wedding cake! Ours was both beautiful and delicious! A professional operation!
great cake
by juliastein42
My family has been going to this bakery since I was a child and it's still as memorable. The staff is so friendly and I can pop in any day to get a birthday cake for my kids or if I have a craving for their incredible frosted brownies. They get more creative every year! What a gem of Philadelphia.
sweet sweets!
by junegirl
I found this bakery on the Fox Philly hot list and it's great! The raspberry scones are different than the ones I had in England but nice. The chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting are insanely good. I also loved the iced shortbread which they don't always have. Cute place!
- Pros: reminds me of my grandmother's desserts
- Cons: only open till 1:00 on Sundays
Disappointing morning stop, small selection
by ashley0101
Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was very disappointed by this Night Kitchen. I'm used to New York and New Jersey bakeries that have bread, but when I walked into Night Kitchen there were strictly pastries. There were no rolls, loaves of bread or croissants. There were cakes. One choice of muffin, blueberry. I got the muffin and it was very dry just an hour after they opened in the morning. I tried the pumpkin pound cake and was very turned off my the texture. It was like crisco shortening with a hint of pumpkin. Two small cases, one with cakes, tarts, and pies, and the other with smaller pastries.
I will not be returning to give them another try. Maybe the cakes are good, I haven't tried them. But a disappointing morning stop for a muffin to go with my coffee.
- Pros: Plenty of parking along Germantown in the morning
- Cons: Lard like pastries, not flaky goodness
best lemon curd cake
by princessy1
oh my God! That lemon curd cake is to die for. So moist and luscious. I want more!!!! This is possibly the best cake I have eaten and I like cake. The staff was very solicitous, as well. They offered suggestions on how to serve it and when to take it out of the fridge. I never would have thought about it. I can't believe that I drove past it for months without going in. I must make up for lost time!
- Pros: everything
Best Bakery
by apuch
I have a love of food and this bakery is a gem. From their old world shortbread cookies to their crumble and almond tarts they simply rule. I stop by for a few goodies before going to the movies and I have yet to be dissapointed. My favorite cake is the mocha cake with mocha icing and chocolate mousse filling. They tell me it is the best seller so I guess I am in good company. For good old fashion bakery goods this is the place in Philly.
- Pros: Friendly, prompt service in a homelike setting with delicious treats.
- Cons: Street parking can be a bit tight especially during holidays when this place is packed.
Night Kitchen Bakery

For our Christmas dinner I wanted to try some new dessert to complement my traditional cookies. So I bought the Yule Log which was the big favorite of the night. The cake is so light and delicious and the combination of the butter cream icing and the filling was indescribable. It was so luscious, many of us had seconds. The yule log is an excellent ending for the holiday meal. In fact, I wish it was on the menu year round. I can't wait for the next Christmas season so I can get another one.
- Pros: Excellent, light dessert
- Cons: That I cannot get it all year.

- Pros: Best cakes ever. Very professional service.
- Cons: None I could think of

In Short
Part of this bakery's charm is that you have to know where to look for it--about five blocks beyond the clusters of specialty shops and restaurants that make up Chestnut Hill's shopping district. Once inside the tiny white cottage house you'll find a friendly staff and a small seating area for those seeking instant gratification with treats such as raspberry linzer tarts or a mocha cake layered with hazelnut buttercream.
