Our Very Favorite Restaurant
by Ann from West Philly
We have eaten at Singapore for about 28 years. We had our daughter's
Wedding Dinner in the Upstairs Private dining room. When our kids come to visit from out of town, they insist on a meal at Singapore every time they come. We love the General Tsao's Chicken and Dim Sum platter. Often we ask Peter to use whichever veggies are in season to make up a platter like Orange Beef with those veggies. Yum!!
- Pros: Family Atmosphere; Delicious Food; Inexpensive
- Cons: We live too far away for take-out
bad service !
by harrypotterfreak4ever
the service is so bad. their servings are so small !! they don't cost that expensive just for that little bowl! The place is dirty and dusty! ugh! i will NEVER EVER come back to this disgusting place!
- Pros: thumbs down
- Cons: the service stinks!
Best vegetarian chinese in Philly!
by jafarhadi
Love this place! Some of the best Chinese food in Philly. Food tastes great and can't be beat for the prices (10 dollar lunch specials). And, you can even order the lunch specials on the weekends!
Main courses: General Tso's chicken is top notch. Tastes even better than the real thing. This is my favorite on the menu.
Soups: Stay away from the Sharkfin soup. It looks like mucus. The miso soup on the lunch special is great!
Best buys: Lunch specials (soup and entree)
The fried wonton noodles are also really tasty!
- Pros: Great food at excellent prices
- Cons: Although the servers are very nice, they can be a little slow

The All You Can Eat Dim Sum Platter is trash, after two bites of the Dim Sum makes me feel bad. I will tell my friends that I will never come back again.

the food was too oily. at first it tasted alright, but later i went home it all came out the other way. the service was lousy i had to get up to get some water and there were little pests wandering around! this is unacceptable!
- Pros: nothing
- Cons: little pests and the food was oily!
Real good real fake seafood, pork, beef and poultry in a peaceful and plain Chinatown setting.

The Food
Start with a bowl of hearty, veggie-packed wonton soup or crispy and light cellophane noodle rolls while you peruse the novel-length menu, noting that the Chinese New Year's special selections are posted (but may not be available) year-round. Next, try the elegant phoenix nest, a bean-sprout basket filled with faux meats plus fresh carrots, snow peas, black mushrooms and broccoli in a garlic sauce. Purists prefer the supreme vegetarian delight, steamed mixed veggies with no sauce; while fried-food fanatics adore the golden shrimp Singapore, eight crispy fried seitan, koniaku and yam "shrimps" with a tofu skin, topped with tangy and sweet Singapore sauce.
The Service
Each of the hundreds of items at Singapore comes with a smile and a charming "thank you." Meatless eating must engender friendly service.
amazing!

Singapore has a long and varied menu, and guarantees that all items are completely vegetarian - and kosher parve, to boot! The servers are extremely friendly and willing to explain any item on the menu. We were even told that items in combo meals could be substituted just pick what you want and well work it out. We started with the hot and sour soup, which was very hot and very sour, had great aroma, and a good mix of veggies. All of our appetizers and main dishes were delicious, but I especially recommend the moo shu vegetables and the spicy bean curd in sizzling platter. The faux meat dishes almost tasted like the real thing! As for perks, the portions are huge, they are very generous with the sauces, and the fortune cookies come to you with orange slices, fried bananas, and hot damp cloths.
- Pros: large helpings, super-friendly staff, flexible menu
some goooooood eatin'!
by Timbo_the_crazy_vegan
A great place! Makes me glad I live in Philadelphia, since Philly is blessed to have a great place like this. Tasty Veggie food. Good for large groups of people since it is rather large. Food is nicely presented. I have had their Moo Shoo "pork" and their Szechuan (sp?) "shrimp", both are recommended. They have lunch specials too and the prices can't be beat.
I have had a problem with service. The food takes a bit to long to arrive IMHO. However, it is worth the wait. Great place to take a date.
- Pros: tasty!, Veggie!, bargin prices!
- Cons: sloooooow service, no weekend specials
