This is my favorite bar in Center City. It's reasonably priced with great weekly food specials. Their Tuesday $.25 wing special is the best in the city. The crowd is always friendly and ranges from college students to older professionals all wanting to enjoy the $5 pitchers of Bud lite and PBR. The Karaoke regulars are worth watching!
Pros: wings, beet pitchers, atmosphere
Cons: not enough seating

I would ceratinly recommend this bar to a tourist because it is THE oldest tavern in Philadelphia but after you've enjoyed a serene happy hour drink, some cheap eats and chatted with a friendly bartender, I would advise that you seek out a more "adult" spot for an authentic philly vibe. By 8 p.m., this tavern is over run with college students swilling $5 pitchers of Miller Lite and So-Co and Lime shooters, while Bon Jovi or Neil Diamond blares from the juke box. The Karaoke nights on Wednesdays & Fridays are too annoying for anyone over 30 to put up with.
Pros: draft beer selection, decent pub fare, historic location
Cons: college kids, noise level, karaoke nights

Best place in the city for great food, good friends and great prices -- Anytime. Don't miss the best wings in the city! No Guinness, but I respect the owner for standing his ground!
Pros: Best Wings, Inexpensive, Always a good time
Cons: NONE

McGillin's is without question the best pub in Philadelphia. Good service, cheap drinks and food, cute waitresses, and a young lively crowd are hallmarks of this little treasure. If you're into the foo foo Old City scene, this may not be your cup of tea - afterall, you're probably accustomed to spending $10 bucks per drink.

This is a spot I always take out-of-town visitors for consistently good food and a happy and historic atmosphere. Closed on Sundays, the friendly staff and other patrons makes for a fun visit time and time again!
Pros: good dinner specials, historic decor, reasaonably priced
Cons: sometimes crowded, no reservation

I love the place but I enjoy 20oz pint of Guinness once in awhile. They do not serve the world's most famous stout due to a silly dispute with the Guinness Import Company and the owner. Can't we all just get along?

McGillin's is a classic old pub that I never get tired of. You can find a decent and mixed crowd almost any night of the week. I don't eat there too often but I've been pleasantly surprised each time. Solid turkey burgers and wings. Once had a great beef stir fry special. The bartenders and waitresses are nice and easy to get to know. They have the standard brews w/ a few extras. For an all around great bar McGillins gets my vote.

The atmosphere alone makes this bar great! The barkeeps are friendly, there is a better class of patrons that show up, and it is reasonable.
Pros: reasonably priced, good size, better crowd
Cons: hard to find
