Love this place!

by Captain22

I go to McGillin's all the time. They have a great list of regional beers and a friendly atmosphere. There's always something giong on - a party, Eagles game to watch, karaoke. I usually order the tuna melt - but lots of times they have unbelievably low priced specials on pizza, tacos, wings and beer - cheap and they taste good too. I love this place.

  • Pros: beer list, friendly crowd, affordable food
  • Cons: parking

Avoid on Football Sunday

by STLHoosier

Entire place smelled like urine on a Sunday afternoon after the eagles game. Even the smelly alley outside had a better aroma.

Not all that its hyped up to be

by TUEatsFood

My friends and I went here for the first time on a Tuesday night because we heard great things about the place....there wasn't anything special about it. Our waitress wasn't friendly or helpful. It took way too long for our food to get to us. My friend ordered malibu bay breezes that tasted like juice. The $0.25 wings came with bleu cheese and celery that was an additional $1 (which we didn't know, they just gave it to us and then charged us) - they weren't that great, I've had better. The staff was not helpful; when we asked for another chair, they said "Go find one yourself" and when we trying to, they got all huffy about us standing around. What? Plus its WAY too loud. Unless you were as drunk as everyone else and don't mind screaming to talk and sitting in the dark, by all means go to Mcgillians. We won't be back.

  • Pros: Food was OK, bathrooms were clean
  • Cons: Service, too dark and too loud

Best Bar in Philly

by jillyfromphilly

This is my favorite bar in Center City. It's reasonably priced with great weekly food specials. Their Tuesday $.25 wing special is the best in the city. The crowd is always friendly and ranges from college students to older professionals all wanting to enjoy the $5 pitchers of Bud lite and PBR. The Karaoke regulars are worth watching!

  • Pros: wings, beet pitchers, atmosphere
  • Cons: not enough seating

This friendly family-run tavern is one of the city's oldest watering holes.

by Contributor

In Short
In case you miss the neon sign reading "Est. 1860" on the way in, you'll certainly notice centuries' worth of Pennsylvania tavern licenses displayed over the bar. Located on a small street just a stone's throw from City Hall, the brick-walled and red tile-floored pub claims its fame from being the oldest continuously operating Philly saloon. The bar is filled at lunchtime for the bargains on crab cakes, soup and sandwiches.

If you're over 30... Leave after Happy Hour

by phillyliz

I would ceratinly recommend this bar to a tourist because it is THE oldest tavern in Philadelphia but after you've enjoyed a serene happy hour drink, some cheap eats and chatted with a friendly bartender, I would advise that you seek out a more "adult" spot for an authentic philly vibe. By 8 p.m., this tavern is over run with college students swilling $5 pitchers of Miller Lite and So-Co and Lime shooters, while Bon Jovi or Neil Diamond blares from the juke box. The Karaoke nights on Wednesdays & Fridays are too annoying for anyone over 30 to put up with.

  • Pros: draft beer selection, decent pub fare, historic location
  • Cons: college kids, noise level, karaoke nights
