The best Vietnamese I've had

by marissaluv009

I've throughly enjoyed my experience at Vietnam Palace time and time again. The owners are friendly and accomodating- one of them is always on premise. Its a family-oriented place that's relaxed but yet beautiful. My favorite is the lychee martini AND the Vijito - a Vietnamese version of a mojito. I've not been disappointed with any food that I've had here.

ALSO I recently attended a banquet which was an open-bar HAPPY HOUR for 150 ppl. The service, food, and beverages were amazing!! Highly recommended.

  • Pros: Super friendly bartender and waitstaff

Authentic Vietnamese Food

by Rittenhousese

Don't miss the excellent pho (rice noodle soup); it comes with silky rice noodle and tender beef floating on delicious broth.

This restaurant has much better service than Vietnam, which is right across the street.

  • Pros: Authentic Vietnamese food
  • Cons: Warm but slow service

BEWARE OF FRAUD!

by smalldiner

BEWARE!!!!! DON"T USE CREDIT CARDS HERE!

I wished I had read the review by mich1138 before going here. My husband used his credit card here, and made the mistake of leaving his credit at the restaurant for two hours. Two days later the card number was used to charge $1400 at two different stores.

I called the manager and complained, and he was initially very defensive and angry.

The food is good, but not worth the price of all this hassle. If you go, use CASH!

  • Cons: credit card fraud

Best LYCHEE MARTINI in the WORLD!!!!

by napoleonhousegrl

Food was good...The Lychee Martini, however will keep this New Orleans girl coming back forever.....

This is the best martini I have ever had...The glasses are kept frozen until it comes to your table...then...they pour your ice cold martini from the shaker at the table...Nervana! for Martini drinkers...this is a must...we do not like seeing our drink sitting at the bar straight up getting hotter by the second till the waiter notices it 20 minutes later..rather not even drink it by then...they also have a huge lychee nut on a skewer bobbing in this icey cold concoction that is the most addicting, delicious way to start a great evening of great food and conversation.. looking at my watch right now...going to stop by for one before heading back to my hotel....yummmmmm..

  • Pros: The MARTINIS...FROZEN GLASSES ...POURED FROM SHAKER AT YOUR TABLE

Employee cloned my credit card

by mich1138

Just thought I'd warn readers that Sunday, August 17, 2008, an employee of Vietnam Palace cloned my credit card and racked up thousands of dollars of charges. Ironically enough, I normally eat across the street at Vietnam, but it was closed. Too bad Vietnam Palace employs such crooks, because the food was terrific. I'll never patronize them again, but if you can't stay away from the pho, I'd suggest paying with cash only.

Awesome Vietnamese place

by Rontu827

I love this place! Excellent Vietnamese food you can sit down and enjoy in a pleasant ambiance, without paying an arm and a leg for it.

This is a restaurant that serves up competent executions of perennial Vietnamese favorites like bun thit, excellent char-broiled meats, and flavorful pho noodle soup. Good selection of non-alcholic drinks including thai iced tea and jackfruit smoothies, and a full list of unique bar mixes. The staff is friendly and helpful, in a relaxing atmosphere that belies its location at the edge of Chinatown. I am always satisfied every time I go!

  • Pros: Great food, great price, great staff
  • Cons: None that I'm aware of

Pure and utter satisfaction

by marriej

There is much contention in Philadelphia regarding which "Vietnam" is better. The Palace or the Restaurant. So, I did a taste test. Vietnam Palace won by a landslide. I tried my two favorite dishes fried springrolls a Pho.

Lunch at the first place, the spring rolls were dripping in grease which made them soggy the flavor was ok and the mint was wilty . The Pho was horrible, the broth is obviously from a bouillon cube and the peices of meat were huge chunks, not thin slices. All together the taste was too overpowering, too beefy.

Now dinner at Vietnam Palace, the spring rolls were crunchy and delicious served with beautiful looking mint. The Pho broth was obviously home made. The beef flavor of the broth was just right and the beef was sliced thin.

Service at both establishments is comparable both have attentive and friendly staff.

But Vietnam Palace wins hands down on food. Mmmm Mmmm Good.

  • Pros: Pho, spring rolls
  • Cons: mixed drink menu

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!

by ableung27

I am writing this review after returning from a friend's birthday party at Vietnam Palace. The bill for the party of 16 ended up being a RIDICULOUS $600!!! THAT'S $40 person for barely any food. 15 dishes averaged out to be $28 per dish. We did NOT order anything like lobster, steak, or alcohol. For crying out loud, 1/3 of the dishes were vegetarian!! And there is NO WAY they had given us $84 worth in spring rolls!!!! You can spend $40/person at a restaurant and be extremely satisfied. But Vietnam Palace is NOT by any means worth your time or money. In the end the manager did NOTHING to adjust the price. We all felt EXTREMELY CHEATED. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE.

Unequal service

by phly

I had dinner with my wife. The restaurant was not busy at all. One large party of 8 people and two other tables of couples. My wife and I simply came in to eat the Pho. When I ordered two bowls of the soup the server asked what appetizers I wanted, asking it in a manner and tone as if expecting that we order appetizers. I said just the two bowls. During the entire time we were there he never returned to see how our meal was; however, my wife and I noticed that he went around asking the other two tables and the larger party. I could understand if they were busy but there were only a total of four tables and he wasn't the only server working the floor. This was our first time eating at Vietnam Palace. We usually eat at the restaurant across the street - they always checked up on our table when we would eat there. Vietnam Palace was a disappointment. The Pho serving was small and the service was not warm. When we were given our bill the server didn't say thank you nor did he look at us when we gave us our food or cleared our table. POOR, POOR SERVICE.

The food is okay. Not the best Vietname food I've had. The service is good, but the restaurant is not very clean.
