Sad Mac N Cheese

Oprah said that Delilah's Macaroni and Cheese was great, so I drove 20 miles to try it. It was the end of the day on a Sunday and the macaroni didn't look very good, but I paid $9.00 for the container anyway. It was dry and tasteless. Where were the seven cheeses? What a disappointment. Here's how to get some great macaroni that is easy to prepare. Microwave a small Stouffer's Macaroni and Cheese and then add a piece of sharp provolone cheese that is broken into small parts. Let it melt...it is creamy and tasty. You won't find anything better...esp. at Delilah's!
- Pros: try the other food places
- Cons: mac n cheese
Just okay

I stopped here expecting to be impressed and, frankly, was not. The fried chicken, although hot and crispy, tasted of the oil in which it was cooked. The mashed potatoes seemed fake, and the cornbread was tasty but quite dry. It fit the bill for me that day because I was quite hungry and it was convenient to what I was doing. But I wanted to love it and didn't. From my limited experience, I find the fare at Warmdaddy's closer to what I consider southern soul cooking.
- Pros: good location
- Cons: bland food
Oily chicken

What a sorrow!
I have heard so much about Delilah's, even the name of the place evokes the subtle tastes of the Carolinas.
But, imagination and wishful thinking don't do much for the taste on the tongue.
Greens are pretty basic. Mac and cheese pretty startchy and tasteless.
Worst of all - the fried chicken. It tastes like notning more than the oil its cooked in.
Pointless.
Go to Crown Chicken on the next street or even to your local Super Fresh ( salt aside).
Delilah lives on what people think, or dream, food should be.
Name and atmosphere convince people of what they are unsure of.
If you want to wait in a line for nothing more than pretending this is Southern Afro coooking, go ahead.
If you want something closer to real Southern chicken go elsewhere.
- Pros: none
- Cons: oily bland food

My Experience at Delilah's
by chelsea11jean
I loved the food at Delilah's. I ordered the White Fish,Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens and I had a big piece of Sweet Potatoe Pie. Everything was very tasty. The mac and cheese was excellent! I consider myself a very good soul food cook. The fish could have used more seasoning, but I like that they catered to those who may have health problems I just added some salt and pepper and hot sauce and all was well! The sweet potatoe pie crust literally melts in your mouth. The Collard Greens were perfect, they were not bitter. The corned bread was fresh and tasty as well. I would like to visit Delilah's actual restuarant for fine dining the next time I'm in Philly. Kudos to you Delilah!
- Pros: Good portions, Friendly Service, Takeout/Seated Svc
- Cons: Open area seating, Nd more diet beverage
Soulful food in the Market

Delilah's serves up fabulous barbecue sandwiches, ribs (when they have them), and macaroni and cheese, the latter of which is apparently Oprah has designated as being the best in America. I'd have to agree that it is really that good. I like the yams too and the cornbread is pretty good. They have a small sit-down area with somewhat slow, haphazard waitress service. I think you're better off waiting in line and eating at one of the many tables available in the market.
