Thunderous applause for Stephen!
by ondecks at Citysearch
How many years have I been going here? Seems like forever.
I live in the burbs, but work in CC. On the recommendation of a friend, I tried Thunder. SO much easier than trying to get an appointment at home (yes, I am one of those people who decide that today is the day my hair is too long & I need a cut NOW), and so much more convenient. Also so much better. Believe me, there IS a difference between a CC cut and a 'burbs cut, and it ain't just the price.
Stephen is wonderful. He can cut my hair blindfolded & still do a better job than most with their eyes open. I trust him implicitly. If he says something will look good, then that's what we do. He's got a great sense of humor, he's adorable, and the man knows what he's doing around hair. He is also warm and incredibly kind. You are not just a "head" to him, you are a friend. After you have your hair done, check out Nicoletta's jewelry as you pay your bill. Stunning!
I'd love to see Stephen on Shear Genius, but then again he might strike one of those prima dona hair stylists upside their head. They are not worthy to sharpen his shears.
- Pros: Great staff!
- Cons: None
Outstanding Color and Cut
by WKathy at Citysearch
Michael is a master with color. Every week someone asks me where I get my hair done because they love the color, and so do I. I drive almost 2 hours to get to this salon and Michael's skilled hands. I wear my hair chin length and in layers so a perfect cut is crucial. Michael spends at least 30 min. just on my cut. Even on a windy day, just a little fluff with my fingers, sends every hair back in place. He's the best!!
There is only one (#1) Michael!

There is no-one to compare with Michael, the ultimate, skilled professional, he is a master at shaping difficult hair. I haven’t let anyone else touch my hair for more decades than he and I would care to count. Even when I travelled away from the city for some length of time; I just let it grow, I just couldn’t trust anyone else! The care he takes is extraordinary. Thank goodness he doesn’t know what a “rush” job is: he will fuss until he is satisfied that the work is done to his own satisfaction. I can’t recall the last time I stated a preference for a style but if he has an idea for a change, he asks. Have I ever said no? I haven’t, no need to, he knows what suits me. And, without fail, after each cut I am asked by colleagues and strangers, Who did your hair? A compliment to me and to him!
- Pros: Consistently great service
- Cons: Expense but oh so worth it!
Stephen or Louis?
by almondlove at Citysearch
Hi, has anyone gone to both Stephen and Louis, and can recommend one of them to fix a messed up SJ color job. My hair looks frosted like from the 80's - helpppppp!!!
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town

If you are looking for a great cut and color Louis is the man to see!
by lindsayrobinson at Citysearch
I began getting my hair cut and colored by Louis about 8 years ago. During that time I moved to New York to work for a fashion magazine. I would drive down to Philadelphia every few months to have Louis color my hair. I worked with hair stylist all the time and the one comment they all made was how great my color was..."Who does your color?" they would ask. Last March I moved out to Los Angeles to work on"So You Think You Can Dance" and "American Idol". Who was going to do my hair!! That was all I could think about! Every month I put it off, my roots got longer and longer! It was time for a trip home... yes that is right I HAD to come home to see Louis because if you want the best cut and color you have to see Louis. When I got back to LA the hair and make up team raved about how great my color was. I am telling you New York and Los Angeles have some great stylist but Philadelphia has the best and his name is Louis.... you shoud give him a call.
- Pros: no nonsence
- Cons: it's far from LA

LOUIS!!!!! Need I say anything more?
by macadamia at Citysearch
Well, I heard about this genius at thunder for a long time and I thought I would give him a try. I have gone from salon to salon trying to find someone real, without attitude, to tell me what is right for me, and still listening to my request, within minutes, he looked ay my shape face, my coloring, and after listening to me, he suggested some ideas on my haircut and hair color. I left there today with a whole new attitude, and a great cut and color. He is a genius! You'll see.
- Pros: philadelphia not new york
- Cons: none
Obsessed with Campbell
by 1citigirl at Citysearch
A friend of mine, with gorgeous hair, referred me to Campbell years ago. After trying several "high end" salons in the city and finding no real love connection, I decided to finally give Campbell a try (better late than never, right?). She's FANTASTIC! She was super friendly and personable but above all knowledgeable. We talked briefly about my hair issues and then she went to work and I honestly could not be happier! I left the salon feeling like a movie star! As long as I'm on the east coast I will be a loyal Campbell client. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
- Pros: Expert stylist, friendly staff, good lighting
- Cons: Parking
