Best seafood in Philly
by ajt141
First of all, the mussels were plump and delicious, not measly like at many other restaurants. My server urged me to cobia, which I'd never even heard of. It was prepared deliciously with a panko and wasabi crust over jasmine rice with lime sauce. Absolutely lovely. It's nice to walk in and actually see the beautiful fish on ice. You can see what you're going to eat before it's cooked. The menu is huge! I respect a crabcake that's called an "all crab crabcake" on the menu. I have to comeback and try that and the Ahi Tuna, which looked gorgeous in a server's hands as she whisked by to another fortunate patron. It's certainly an inexpensive restaurant too. With a bottle of wine, 2 entrees and a heaping bowl of mussels, the check was only $75.
I took a star off simpily because the desserts didn't excite me. With a menu that huge and creative, I would have liked to finish off with a dessert that would knock my socks off. Still, I'll be back again and again.
- Pros: FRESH SEAFOOD, CREATIVE RECIPES, HUGE MENU THAT CHANGES OFTEN
- Cons: Very small. Don't expect ambience like Devon or Philadelphia Fish & Co., but it's not a hole in the wall.
Best of Both Worlds

While I've been dining in at Seafood Unlimited for years, only recently did I decide to try their fish market and try my hand at grilling scallops (which was inspired by Seafood Unlimited's seafood grilling piece on ABC earlier this summer). Wow! Seriously the freshest fish I've bought in Philly. Following their grilling tips, my scallops came out perfect!! Dining in or out, Seafood Unlimited is the way to go!
- Pros: Food is great! Fish Market is Super Fresh!
- Cons: none!
Casual neighborhood bistro prepares fresh catch daily
by Sharmila
We stumbled upon Seafood Unlimited on a lazy Saturday afternoon and were quickly impressed by the freshness of it seafood and comfort of its casual dining room. As we waited for our lunch, fresh mussels and oysters were being delivered to the restaurant and the chef offered to prepare them for us right there on the spot. We enjoyed a fresh seafood salad, and a delicious shimp & crab sandwitch. Service is friendly and relaxed- there is nothing prertensious about this place.
If you enjoy good, well prepared, fresh seafood at a very reasonable price, or if you just need to escape the noisy scene of Rittenhouse Square's Restaurant Row, Seafood Unlimited is the quiet, unpretentious and casual way to go.
- Pros: Fresh seafood, well priced, casual atmosphere
- Cons: Not fancy but casual, relaxed and consistent
This stylish American seafood bistro does double time as neighborhood fishmonger where the focus is on fresh and seasonal varieties.

In Short
Once upon a time this Rittenhouse Square-area seafooder was more of a fish retailer with a few tables. Following a stylish re-do around 2003, Seafood Unlimited reinvented itself as a comfortable seafood restaurant--that also sells fish. Standouts include some of the city's best chowders--both New England and Manhattan, seared yellow fin tuna nicoise salad and oysters on the half shell, and of course steamed lobster stuffed with crabmeat.
