Manager's Attitude Terrible!

by ziggy19103

If you must be at a Cigar bar in Philly, you may choose to go here. But there are better smoking joints in Philly far more welcoming than Mahogany. I thought the exhaust system was not well designed and the upholstery a little too jaded. The scotch selection and the beers are good - the food is a few notches above bar-food-grade, but what ruined it all was the manager's attitude! He was completely inconsiderate and based on his attitude towards non-whites he is clearly prejudiced. He was absolutely not cool with the bartenders. Not a cool place for me at all..

It's Alright.

Wow, sure sounds to me that Management is trying to hide something. City Search is a place where people can share opinions good OR bad. I heard my buddy tell me he saw a cocktail waitress cry there once because her boss chewed her up in front of everyone. But I'll go back because it's the only place in Phily you can still smoke!

  • Pros: Hot Girls and Smoking
  • Cons: Over Priced and too many dudes

My Happy Place

by HP1

Mahogany is one of my favorite places to go to after a long day in the office or for a quick afternoon drink on Saturday. I have to say that I am extremely disappointed that citysearch would allow a bitter vengeful employee such as fillygrl to post such an outrageous review.

Please explain to me how management could always be stepping on the customer's toes and making the customers' feel about an inch tall? If the management at Mahogany made the customers feel about an inch tall they would be out of business! Mahogany is, and will remain one of my favorite places. I recommend this place to anyone!

Citysearch,

I am disappointed in your lack of filtering.

like a second home

by flyers30

I don't know what my agony is talking about, other than that it looks like a former employee, not a customer wrote it. I have been a 3-5 night a week regular for about 3 years, and have never seen the management less than gracious with customers. The staff is always great, genuinely cares, and is extremely knowledgeable. The food is excellent, you can?t go wrong with anything on the menu, and the drink selection is fantastic. When in doubt order a dirty daddy and hope you have a ride home!

  • Pros: Great drinks, cigars, and staff
  • Cons: none!

More like.... "My Agony"!!!!

by fillygrl

Sure the idea is great, the setting is nice, and the staff (by staff I mean waitresses) are great.... but you can feel really uncomfortable by the management/ownership there. Not only did I overhear the owner yell at his staff in a very inappropriate way in front of customers- but later on over heard him talking trash about a customer he was just pretending to be nice to. It was a busy night and the staff were really trying hard to take care of everyone... but with someone always stepping on your toes and making you feel about an inch tall... no wonder things were all out of sort! Personally, I would never go back to a place where they treat staff and customers in such a manner!!!

  • Pros: Friendly Waitresses
  • Cons: Harsh and Demeaning Owner

In Short
Among the overstuffed chairs, plush couches and cozy smoking nooks--catering to the famous, the wealthy and the masculine--relaxation is encouraged for imbibers. (Self-satisfaction is implied by the painting of a smirking Winston Churchill.) An elaborate air filtration system allows customers to puff away on cigars like Ashtons, Davidoffs and Macanudos from Holt's Cigars downstairs while they sip on their glasses of scotch and whatnot.

good pizza annd charcuterie plate

by fusion238

My wife and I have been to Mahogany 3 or 4 times now, and it is my favorite bar in Philly. Warm, elegant atmosphere, a TV or 2 to watch the game, friendly service, quiet. I have never seen it too crowded, even on weekends. The pizza and charcuterie (meat an cheese) plate are both very good. Good for after work; most clients are dressed well.

  • Pros: relatively quiet, food, drinks, atmosphere, no crowd scene
  • Cons: a little on the expensive side; parking, of course

What a GREAT place!!! Wanted to sip a drink and smoke a stoogie. However I didn't want to be in some smokey copy cat cigar bar. Great service!! Great food!! And they made the BEST expresso martini I ever had. Lovely staff of classy ladies and the biggest selection of single cigars you will find. If you are in Philadelphia you got to check this out.

Best found secret in Philly

by xaviercigar

Hands down Mahogany on Walnut is one of the best bars in city! After a long day at work I was able to sit in a plush couch with my girlfriend, relax and escape the hustle of Walnut street. Their friendly/knowledgeable staff attended to every need I had, while guiding us through their amazing selection spirits and wine. (I've never seen such a selection of liquor on a backbar.) With the help of the staff, I settled on a Aston Heritage paired with a Dows 1986 Vintage port...perfect. My girlfriend had the half bottle of Rex Hill Pinot Noir served in oversized glassware...could you ask for anything more? Well we did ask for more and topped of the night with a great Chocolate Creme Brulee and a Chocolate Hazelnut Tartufo. The owner, Tom Piazza even came over and personally welcomed us to his establishment. Truly a wonderful experience!

There is NON better

Places to smoke a cigar in the Rittenhouse Sq area are few and near non-existant. That's why I love this place. Open late, comfy seats, great atmosphere and frendly service. Best place to smoke a cigar while having a drink in Center City.

  • Pros: Atmosphere, Convient Location
