Total Disappointment and Waste of Time

by LizinNJ

From the moment I walked into Marathon Grill, the disgruntled attitude of the hostess should have convinced me to walk right back out. As this was my first time there, I decided to give it a shot anyway. After waiting 20 min's for a table, I was finally seated in a table that was not only incredibly small and awkward even for 2, but it was also clearly in the path of incoming diners and wait staff. My waiter wasn't exactly rude, but he clearly either despises his job or simply doesn't care. It took approximately 10 min's to place my order. My coffee was brought out about 5 minutes later missing the sugar I had asked for and with no napkins or utensils available. After asking for a spoon, I was finally brought a napkin and fork, but no spoon. My boyfriend and I both ordered omelets and a stack of pancakes to share. I could have easily gotten the same quality omelet at Denny's for half the price. The waiter helped to overcrowd the table even more by bringing two plates with 1 1/2 pancakes each (we had asked to share them--he took it as we needed it literally split in half). My side of turkey sausage was barely edible, even after sawing at it to cut it into pieces. I could have spent $1 at the grocery store and gotten better turkey sausage. The quality of bacon at Burger King far exceeds the quality of the bacon at Marathon Grill. When I finally caught the waiters attention to ask for a coffee refill, he proceeded to take my half full cup, took it away for about 5 min's and finally brought it back having simply added a little additional coffee with his hands around the rim of the mug. (who does that??) In summary, rude hostess + inattentive and unintelligent wait staff + below average food = Worst Brunch I've ever had at almost $50 for 2. I hightly recommend skipping Marathon Grill and heading right over to Famous 4th St Deli where the food is perfectly priced and always exceeds expectations.

  • Pros: Extensive Menu Selections
  • Cons: Rude staff, overpriced mediocre food

The order is TYPED, but they can't get it RIGHT!

by allysa1

I am writing regarding this restaurant located at 16th and Sansome. My company has been ordering lunch every Friday, since September 2007, which are faxed in by 10:30 a.m. (until their fax machine stopped working). A fax document was created, so that the orders are typed to eliminate confusion, however, there were plenty of times that the salad dressings were missing or were put on the salads, when I request (in bold letters) that all salad dressings must be "on the side". We also have Vegans, but one order had the chicken in the salad, instead of being on the side. Another sandwich was ordered without the turkey, only to contain bacon that was not listed as an ingredient on the menu. One time a hamburger order was missed, along with sauteed spinach from another order. The last few months, the fax machine wasn't working, so I called in the orders. I kind of dread this with the mistakes on the other orders that were faxed in, & again, there were mistakes. One order had six items, two consisting only of a soup & a chili order. Three were off the regular menu, with the remaining item being one of the platter specials. I requested an 11:45 a.m. to 12 noon delivery as usual. At 12:05 p.m., I called & was told that the order was going out the door. This company is located a block away. The order did not arrive until 12:30 p.m. There were only two salad dressings ordered, but both were missing. I don't know what else to do to get these orders delivered correctly, & I have walked the order down the block just to avoid mistakes by the order takers, but this time, with the rain, I called in an order. The salmon bagel platter was missing the BAGEL. The Red Bliss side order became a Tuna-Bean Pasta side. Hot items were cold, cold items were warm. So, this is the last time our company will be ordering from this restaurant. By the way, they have a customer service email site to contact them for complaints, etc., but my email was returned with an error message.

Upscale Diner, Good brunch

by ket006

Went here for brunch on a saturday morning, 11am. 15 minute wait. upscale, but casual atmosphere. great omelettes. Great service. Nice compromise between good diner food and nice atmosphere. $10 brunch dishes.

  • Pros: Good food, casual, but upscale diner
  • Cons: not a greasy spoon, if that's what you're looking for.

Better than Denny's

by rdelljh

Grand homemade fried potatoes. Cheeses are chosen specially for each dish. Serving size is ample. Atmosphere is that of an upscale diner. Pretty busy at brunch, so food was a little slow.

  • Pros: Good food, decent price.
  • Cons: Good food takes time.

"Sorry, we're out of that."

by shaneembury

went there twice only to find a long list of items that were no longer in stock. how can a restaurant be out of steaks, tuna, salmon, bananas, calamari, hamburgers, etc... all in one night? very disappointing even though service was good. also, hostess lies to your face about what's in stock and what's not, according to her "yeah, we have everything."

  • Pros: location, hours
  • Cons: ALWAYS OUT OF CALAMARI and various other foodstuffs

Best in the Business

by jlw252525

My coworkers and I have gotten sick of going out for lunch everyday, so we decided to try Marathon Grills Corporate Catering. They faxed us over a menu with tons of great selections. Even Mary Ann, the office Vegetarian can't get enough of the vegetarian choices. We love Marathon Catering so much that we order from them just about everyday. I cannot wait for lunch tomorrow.

  • Pros: Extensive Menu, Huge Portions, Clean Atmosphere

Great soup!

by lbaehre

I can't get enough of their soups. I eat there several days a week and have yet to be disappointed. The Matzo Ball Soup is the best!

  • Pros: Great soup, Fast service
