Best Fish Platter in Town
by JoelZimmer
Hymie's is a very nice, very clean deli. There's a great weekday breakfast special, very reasonably priced. The fish platter for 2 or 3 is a great deal and the fish is the best I ever tasted. The service is a little spotty as some of the waittresses tend to disappear after they bring you your food. You gotta speak up sometimes. Get there before 11 on Sun. mornings if you don't want to wait as it gets jammed up after then.
- Pros: Fish, breakfasts, friendliness
- Cons: disappearing waittresses
Stay far, far away

This store has the worst service, the rudent cashier and very old, dry food - I can't imagine why anyone would patronize this place when there are so many other restaurant in the neigborhood that have at least decent food- If you want jewish deli there is the counter at Farmer's Market in Suburban Square and the deli at the Reading Terminal market- this place is overpriced and filty, to say the least. Save yourself a lot of wasted money and time - stay away
A classic Jewish deli where the food and the scene are inextricably intertwined

In Short
Hymie's has a split personality: It's a mega-takeout business of prepared cold foodstuffs that reside in large glass case: smoked fish, cured meats, knishes. Outside the case, particularly on Sunday morning, impatient take-out customers crowd the isles. The other half of Hymie's is a restaurant. Regular patrons order benchmark dishes: chicken soup with noodles, matzo dumplings, or borscht. There are overstuffed sandwiches of corned beef, pastrami, chopped liver, alone, or in various combinations.
Decent food, mediocre service, good takeout!

If you love fresh Nova Lox, this is the place to buy it. The deli section is well stocked with practically anything you want, and you don't have to wait in line to be seated.
Given, Hymie's is a popular destination for Mainliners, but it is really not worth the wait. The menu is extensive and thier cabbage soup is authentic (although overloaded with sugar). Traditional fare is very good and thier fish is always fresh.
If you don't get seated promptly, do what everyone else does, walk ove to Murray's across the street for equally good food and equally mediocre service.
- Pros: Fast food that can be a bit slow
- Cons: Disgrunteled servers, long wait to be seated
