The quality of the food has dropped substantially.
by JerseyFarmer
The quality has dropped decidedly since our previous visit. My daughter and I had an entrie of shimp and scallops with Chinese vegetables and were very disappointed. The dish was tasteless and what was offered as scallops were large whitish discs that were soft, mushy and tateless. I grew up on seafood and know that the muscle of a scallop should be solid and firm. These pretend scalops had apparently been diced out of some other creature. I know that business are hurting, but I would rather have had one or two real scallops. Sorry we won't be back
Yangming - Truly the Main Line Style

Not only does the food here differ, the company too. Everywhere you look, you can see families gathering together, friends going out for a drink, or people meeting to discuss business. For us, it was family outing. There are chairs in the front for people to wait. We happened to sit in the back, where it was more spacious. The food had a high class quality to it that lived up to its name. It tasted a bit fusion. I would suggest the General Tso Chicken for children and the Crabmeat Fried Rice. You definitely can not forget to try the tiramisu for dessert!
Good food

The Mongolian lamb here is quite delicious. I have no idea if it's authentic, but it's tasty, that's for sure. There are two sides to this restaurant in the evenings, one for parties consisting only of adults and the other for people with children. The adult side is much nicer and service is better and more attentive. If you go with someone under 21, you will be seated in a back pocket somewhere and a bit less attention will be paid to you. The difference is good and better, not good and bad, though, so either side is fine really. The food is good, the prices are reasonable.
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: Seems to be either crowded or empty
Poor service, average food

We booked a table for 5 on a weekend night, and when we arrived, there was no table available. They attempted to seat us in a booth that typically seated 2!!! When we declined the seat, we were asked to wait for about 20 mins further, without apologies.
The food we ordered came promptly and was of acceptable quality. The mouch-touted peking duck was a disappointment! It came in a tortilla wrap, which is totally unauthentic. The wraps should be way smaller, house-made with flour for any credibility. We had much better peking duck in Chinatown for less.
The waitress that served our table was brusque and sloppy. We waited another 10 mins before we got menus, waited again to order. When we asked for cutlery for our children, she simply placed the whole bunch of forks and knives in the middle of the table. We noticed she stopped by a couple of times to ask the next table how the meal went, but we literally had to stop her in her tracks if we wanted our water glasses to be topped up. I only hope we weren't discrimnated against because we are chinese. We ordered a few desserts to share. When the second dessert came, she actually wanted to put the dessert plate on top of the first one!! It was not something I expect nor accept in a restaurant at this price range.
We tipped her 10% of the meal, which was below our standard tip of 20% for decent service. When we left, we could hear the waitress complaining about the tip to her colleague.
quality price and service are amazing

My wife and I had our wedding reception at Yang Ming. Being we only had about 100 guests so people were not scrunched into a tight fitting area. I still have people that went to my wedding tell me it was the best food they've ever had for a wedding reception. If you haven't tried it...GO. You'll have a good meal and good service. For desert try the Tiramisu!!!
- Pros: food, service, price, ambience
- Cons: none
good american chinese food, a bar, and very high prices

Ok - Yang Ming - it's in my back yard. Here is the place for a certain group of Main Liners to go to a Chinese Restauarant without having to deal with the any other ethnic elements. What Yang Ming has done is to take ordinary Chinese food and set it in the environment of the Gladwyn Guard House - complete with the ever so essential bar.
Now, don't get me wrong. The food is very nice but certainly not exceptional. The prices are a good bit higher than the average Chinese restaurant. Although, here, you get a nicely carved vegetable in the shape of something fun that you can bring home to the grandkids - if Main Liners dare to ask for a doggy bag.
If you frequent Chinatown - which, I would venture to say, most Yang Ming patrons rarely do, you will find this place almost laughable - at least until you get your bill.
Why do I go there? Well, really because I am often the recipient of gift certificates for the place.
The other sad part is that they "orientalized" a local landmark originally built in the colonial style. (My great-grandmother used to buy chicken feed there!)
- Pros: liquor, if you want it.
- Cons: overpriced, self-congratulatory
Upscale chinese food with an unmistakable country-club feel.

In Short
Pastel restroom wallpaper bears a striking resemblance to vintage Pucci print. Fresh ingredients and professional preparations create better-than-fast Chinese fare. The sea bass in rice paper with wasabi and tempura-battered Ahi tuna are good bets, but stick to classics like seafood with vegetables in a noodle basket and crunchy shrimp with honey walnuts.

I ate at Yangming for the first time today, since I had a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket. I was pleasantly surprised. While the food was very Americanized, I think that the overall tastes were combined very well.
The wonton soup was good but nothing spectacular while the spring rolls were very, very Chinese. I'm more used to Vietnamese spring rolls which makes sense since I'm Viet :-).
My entree was the filet mignon with haricot verts, maitake mushrooms, something that looked and tasted like three potato pierogies, and a red wine reduction. The green beans were somewhat heavily salted but I realize that this was both for taste, obviously, and for texture. I believe that they use sea salt. I was astonished at the amount of maitake mushrooms on my plate, since even with large/bulk purchases they can run sixty dollars a pound.
I recommend Yangming.

Sure it is Main Line and sure there are timid diners there, but the range of offerings is expansive. I have eaten there over fifty times and have never had a bad meal. Go! You will enjoy. Great for take out when you want to eat in. I love their shrimp offerings in particular. Always a pleasure and you are always welcomed warly and personally.
- Pros: Food, Value, Service
Impressive decor, lovely food.......

I was at Yangming recently after a 10 year absence. I honeslty can't explain why I waited so long in returning! The place is lovely -- and fills up quickly -- and the overall service is wonderful.
True, it is pricey for Chinese...but when you can find something that is 5-star dining, it is worth the price! I'm vegetarian, and they created something that was not on the menu to accomodate me. I plan on making more returns!
- Pros: Lovely location, Decor, Prompt & attentive
- Cons: Lack of parking
