A simple night out in the city
by cek138
My soon to be wife and I had dinner there and we both felt it was a great experience. The decor, inside and outside, was very clean and simple. The food was tasty(Drunken Chicken & Beef Kabobs). The banana dessert (don't remember the name) we had was amazing. The service was personal and enjoyable. It was perfect choice for a nice, simple night out on the town.
We liked Astral Plane so much that we are now planning our rehearsal dinner there. And I must mentioned that the service has been very helpful and booking has been easy. We are very excited.
Great food and decor

The ambience of the new astral plane was very warm and simple. The food was excellent. We usually go once every couple of weeks and are never disappointed. My favorite dish is the chicken azteca which, as a huge fan of cheese, is drenched in oaxaca cheese. In addition, if you ask for more, they will give you more! I love that! Last night I tried an amazing pork chop that was wonderfully cooked and huge. Plenty for two!
The service is fantastic and the owners are so friendly and welcoming. It's great for an intimate dinner or a party of 6 or more. Check it out!
Disappointing

The previously known Astral Plane was romantic and enjoyable. The newly renounced restaurant is anything but tasteful. After a 45 minute wait for our appetizer, the calamari was bland and chewy. Following another 1 hour and 15 minute wait for our entree the New York Strip was ?tiny? and the salmon a small sliver of food. The fact that we were finished our wine prior to our meal was unsettling enough. The wait staff did not have the courtesy to acknowledge the delay which made the experience that much worse.
- Pros: Decor
- Cons: Small portions and wait
A new age dawns on this legendary Center City south-sider and neighbors and fans applaud the effort.

In Short
This legendary Philadelphia space reopens with a nod to a new start by adding Millennium to the storied name where the likes of Liza, Jagger and Midler supped over the ages. These days a cleaner more modern space takes up where unabashed kitsch once lent to a colorful and homey feel--especially if your home was decorated by an uncle who did stage design for Auntie Mame. But a fresh start cleans the slate with a fresh menu of new American fare that's winning the thumbs up from diners former and new. Gone too is Astral's liquor license--which could be a good thing for those wishing to save a few bucks.
