Where to begin. I have ALWAYS like the end result., absolutely beautiful hair but I couldnt take the wait anymore. I had been going to Diadem for a few years and decided that my time was way too precious to spend all evening there, so I left. I was ALWAYS punctual for my appts. but ALWAYS waited a minimum of 4 hours to get serviced. There were times when they were still at Main St that I was left upstairs and forgotten about once Carol would leave for the evening. There was a time that Desi was doing a weave when I arrived. Now, tell me this if you know that it takes a minimum of 3hours to do a full sewn-in weave, then WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU SCHEDULE THE NEXT APPT 45 MINS AFTER THE WEAVE APPT?!?!?! I sat there for 5 hours while she put in that weave. MY TIME IS PRECIOUS TOO DESI!!!! During one of my appts I witnessed another customer get fed up and decided to leave after she had been there for 4 hours, Desi had the nerve to get an attitude when the customer left. HOW DARE YOU GET UPSET THAT SOMEONE DECIDED TO LEAVE AFTER YOU HAD THEM WAITING THERE OVER 4 HOURS. I understand that there will be some wait time and I dont mind that but when it starts approaching 4,5,6 hours after I just got finished having a long and stressful day at work, thats when it becomes problematic. The last thing I want to do is spend 6-8 hours in a salon after leaving work. Desi, you need to STOP taking your customers time for granted. Do I need to get into the inconsistent prices?? As some others have written it was ALWAYS a guessing game. I had been going there for a few years so because of the price I was quoted during my initial visits I would always have that amount ready for subsequent visits but to my surprise I would end up being quoted more than I had paid previously for the same exact services. Then i still had to tip you and the shampoo girl. A friend of mine stopped tipping her altogether. If you value your time, go somewhere else, it is NOT worth it.
Pros: Healthy, Shiny Hair
Cons: Long Wait, Pay upscale salon prices for sub-standard services

After reading the reviews on this salon I decided to give it a try. As a young professional woman who moved to this area about a year ago i have spent a lot of time in and out of Philly salons. Getting an appointment was challenging but that was quite comforting just knowing these folk are working and in demand. I also got an estimate on the cost of my services when I booked, MY MY when i walked in the salon I was really dazzeled its a beautiful salon and a comfortable environment. I was thinking can they deliver? All of the staff seemed to enjoy what they were doing. My stylist was quite knowledgeable, very straight and honest, with great suggestions. Desi took the time to show me where my hair needs were and gave me great ideas. My services were so worth the cost and my Cut is Sensational. Thanks Desi Thanks diadem.
Pros: Talented and Creative
Cons: must schedule in advance

Diadem's stylists are very good at what they do but prepared to wait a long time for service. If the owner Dezi does your hair she will have you waiting FOREVER; sad part is she never offers any kind of apology for the delay. You would think at a place where they charge so much $$ for their services you'd receive superior customer service; which would include at the very least an apology but I was NEVER given one. She schedules too many people close together (because she's more concerned about how much $$ she can make in a day as oppose to providing superior customer service) not allowing enough time in between each person so you end up waiting and waiting and waiting!!!! I have waited anywhere from 4-6 hours just to sit in her chair, which is absolutely RIDICULOUS. She has an attitude of her time is more precious than yours. I had never dreaded going to the salon until i started going there but they kept me there for awhile because my hair ALWAYS looked beautiful. Dezi exhibits poor customer service, which she really needs to work on. As someone else wrote the prices were NEVER the same. I had gotten the same service every single time and the price was ALWAYS different. The price would fluctuate between $55 & $75 for the service I received. It would be nice if there was a price list sheet on the counter that clients could take with them, but they will never make something like that available to clients. The way it is now she can charge whatever she feels like. If she wants to charge $55 today she can, if she wants to charge $75 your next visit, she can and you can't even challenge her on it. I have been to upscale salons; you are offered coffee, tea, water and pastries and are made to feel welcomed...NOT HERE!!They are a hood salon with high prices, thats all!!! They are charging the same high prices they charged when they were on Main Street but now u need to be concerned about your safety when walking to your cars. That salon is completely OVER-RATED!!!!
Pros: Extremely Healthy Looking Hair
Cons: EXTREMELY LONG WAIT & POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

To me being a hairstylist myself finding someone who cares about your hair and can manage it well is hard to find. Ladies as you know it is very hard to find a stylist who truly care about hair care, I have seen it all, I have walk into places and turned right back around because yes I might get in and out, but what will my hair look like. Desiree is able to look at your hair and start you on your journey for everything it needs. Her love for what she does shows in your hair. Depending on where you are in your journey with your hair will allow you to determine what is important to you. Because once you have been to enough places that have you in and out and later to find out your hair have been more damaged because the stylist haven't been taking the time that was needed you'll see the value. If you have been going to Diadem for enough time you have been seeing a true growth in every area and every business has more room to grow, no business is completely perfect, but you can best believe that any owner that cares which I know she does is to have the best in every area for her business. Back to my services, Yes I waited a little, but it was steady and I didn't mind because for me it was worth is to know I could trust Desiree in my hair. Diadem's Goal is excellence and it doesn't happen overnight, but it is happening, the truth is evident, treat yourself the healty hair and feel the difference. I felt it in my hair so I know you'll feel it in yours. Plan your day accordingly , but don't miss the oppurtunity of your hair looking as wonderful as you feel on the inside. God Bless much love Marcella

I agree with a previous poster--"women with money don't have time to wait". I am very busy and if I am paying high prices of a boutique salon, I expect boutique treatment. My longest wait was 8 hours. I was never offered a beverage, etc. Also, prices are arbitrary. Everytime I go there, I am baffled at what I am paying for. Prices change for the same do! I just don't get it. Upscale salons don't only provide an upscale look. They also provide upscale services....hand massages, drinks, cookies, websites with prices, uniformity of attire, and impeccable customer service. As far as the hair--I like it! But, it is not good enough to justify the wait. Perhaps people who have not been exposed in life expect to wait for a nice hairstyle. But that is not the case. My styles have always been very basic. Nothing really stands out. But I will say that healthy hair is definitely a priority. You cannot knock that. The owner--nice girl. I admire her ambition to do this at her age. However, she needs to set a standard in her salon. She participates and initiates gossip. As a customer, I don't need to see your drama. All of the whispering is totally immature. She also does not accept criticism well. Instead of reading these reviews and making positive changes, she looks at them as if we are all crazy. The location is very sketchy. I am always looking out the window at my car and praying that no one steals it. All in all, I say it is up to you. If you do not value your time, expect to pay random prices, enjoy visiting unsafe environments, and witnessing a bunch of gossip Diadem is the place for you. However, if you would rather spend that money on a salon that is worth it, find another salon. I rated them average. They have good and bad points. Their formula totally needs tweaking. This is not a 5 star salon.....but it can be! But it isn't a 1 star salon either. The 5 star reviewers are faithful customers who are brainwashed.
Pros: Healthy hair
Cons: The wait, the gossip, pricing

Oe of my coworkers had recommended diadem to me after months of me complimenting her hair . Her hair dresser had cut off all the dead weight and her hair began growing back , fast , healthy , and without a PERM. I have only went to Domincans and had not went to a black hair dresser in years. After one visit my roomate and I were more then satisfied with Lisas's service and decided we had finally found a salon home and became regualr customers. Lisa as well as the other stylist are more into haircare which is impossible to find in a stylist these days. My roomate and I were amazed while waiting for our appointment on how straight and ready to go the hair looked when the stylist had simply completed blowdrying the other customers hair. When we tell our friends about our hairdresser compared to theirs we always say "When lisa simply blowdrys my hair it looks like it did at other salons when it blowdryed, straightend and curled". I am more then satisfied by the service , the down to earth stylist , and the pleasant meangaement at diadems. I am more then sure anyone who is looking for helathy hair that is easy to manage would be more then satisfied if they gave Diadem a try!!

My first ecnounter with Dezi was when she was a stylist working at Saks Fifth Avenue. I have followed her for the past 10 years. I have never had someone to be this interested in the state of my hair. Dezi convinced me that after to many years to count, to stop getting a perm. I truly enjoy my experince at Diadem, when I step through the doors, I feel like I'm at home. The service is very professional and very relaxing. I would, and have recommended Diadem to everyone. This is a shop of young entrpreneurs, who care about their work and their reputation. I respect their time, and they in turn respect mind. Keep up the good work..... gs
Pros: Healhty Hair
Cons: None

After a long string of hair stylists who were more concerned about pushing clients in and out of their doors than taking the time to actually care for their clients hair, my hair was in such bad shape that I was on the verge of getting a perm, when my friend told me to try to Diadem. And I am so happy she did, I've been going regularly since December 2007 and have never looked back!! The staff at Diadem, actually knows how to care for natural hair and is really concerned about improving and maintaining health of your hair with great style. The wait on occasion can be a little long, but lets be realistic how many people have never waited to get their hair done? Besides in my opinion the quality of the treatments is well worth the wait. My stylist is Angeline, and she always does a great job on my hair. When I leave my hair is shiny, bouncy, and full of life. I get tons of compliments on my hair, and her presses LAST!! Ang took great pains to bring my hair back to life, and I couldn't be happier with her or the salon. Ms. Carol and the rest of the staff are always friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this salon!!
Pros: healthy hair, friendly service

I was a client w/ Desi for several years and just got fed up. Granted, my hair was in good condition, however, never really recieved a 'head turning' style or anything fabulous. Upon reading the reviews I would agree as a woman over forty I was treated as if I had no style - and that is how i walked out of the salon ( shiny curled hair with a nondescrip style). As the years went by I grew more and more impatient and dissatisfied with the wait time and boring haircut &style. By the way Desi likes to cut (I actually overheard Desi state that 'older women should not have long hair and she wants her Mom to cut her hair'). The other stylists Ang, would be a good recommendation if you want to keep some length. My time spent in the salon was negatively impacting my lifestyle and I just had to go. Also would like to inform that the prices are inconsistent. I felt as if I was being cheated!! Why should i have to pay high prices and wait several hours for a vanilla hair style? FYI don't beleive the hype - There are other salons in Philly that will do your hair right and you do not have to wait all day. I'm just mad at myself for waiting so long b/c im VERY happy with my hair now.
Pros: condition of hair
Cons: ridiculous wait, boring styles

Ms Carol is a gem and has mastered customer service. The actual hairstylists are immature and have no respect for your time. This salon is just like many others in the 'hood. If you have nothing else to do for 6 hours this is the place 4 u. If you are a busy working girl I would not recommend, apparently the staff thinks you have nothing else to do but wait on them. Ironic, because the prices are above average - women with money do not have time for this...
Pros: quality products- shiny hair
Cons: poor time management, no amenities
