Great find

by Smitty60

It was a nice find and will be back again . The food was very good the service was very good . We could hear one person ( a bit too much to drink ) complaining about the smoke from the kitchen . But I thought that it added to the experiance

  • Pros: Great food great service

great food friendly service

by Siezetheday

Wonderful experience. Friendly staff and service. We asked to sit outside on the new patio, so they moved a table to accomodate our party. The food was delicious. . . we all shared each others entrees and had trouble deciding which was our favorite, since each was uniquely prepared and flavorful. The service all through our evening excellent and we were encouraged to relaxed and take our time to enjoy our wine. I have now been here 3 times and would definitely recommend it to a friend or someone who wants great food and an intimate dining experience, BYOB with a lovely setting and warm atmosphere.

the sun will come up tommorrow

I was sad to see the review about copper and I usually just lurk but, I was seated next to the party who I believe wrote the horrible review and thought I would respond. I used to be a server and thought it was so rude for a party to continually funnel in for about an hour. That party was so incredibly rude to the server. I have had this same server before and while she is not my favorite server I have ever had she has never rubbed me the wrong way or has never been rude to us It is a shame that people think they can spend any amount of time at a busy BYOB on a valentine weekend. I was there with my husband and also had the pork chop. It was pretty fabulous and my husband had the cod. The salsa verde was so good. I would have had a more pleasant experience if this party did not complain the whole entire time it was seated. I do have to say that I enjoyed the mussels I had in the summer better than the ones we had this past weekend..........While still tasty the ones they had with the white wine were excellent and hope they go back to them in the future, This is the third time at copper and look forward to the next. I love the fact the menu is different each time we have been there. It is such a cute place. One of my favorites.

Rude Service

by IraqVeteran2004

We paid our second, and last, visit to Copper Bistro back in February 2008. We met 3 other friends there as part of our monthly dinner club. My wife and I were 45 minutes late, however; our friends were on time and had already ordered appetizers and opened wine. As soon as we arrived, we ordered our main courses. The waitress - the dyed hair, tattooed, pierced type - was rude to us all night for being late. I pointed out to her that the bulk of the party showed up on time for the reservation, so our lateness shouldn't be an issue. She proceeded to rush us all night and refused us dessert and coffee! There was no one waiting for the table and in fact there was an open table in the restaurant anyway. I wasn't aware that a reservation had a time limit on it. Additionally, our food was marginal at best. I had the grain salad, which was tasteless and my duck needed a chain saw to cut it. My wife faired no better. This was a huge disappointment because our first meal there was awesome and we recommended the place to our friends.

  • Pros: Nice decor; good location
  • Cons: service; food quality

Great BYO

by Jan77

My boyfriend and I like to frequent Copper because parking is usually good (relatively speaking for the city), the restaurant is low-key and romantic, and the food is always great. I felt compelled to finally write a review after our recent trip--we had another fantastic meal. I had the gnocchi appetizer and scallops with wild mushrooms--the meal was one of the best I've had since Vetri (at about a quarter of the price). My boyfriend had the braised veal and literally got up to thank the chef/owner. Another wonderful touch about Copper is how cozy and warm the atmosphere is, including the staff. We often linger to finish our bottle of wine and have always had wonderful conversations with the chef/owner and the staff.

  • Pros: Atmosphere, Parking, Price, Gnocchi and Scallops
  • Cons: Tables can get cramped when crowded

Bistro 7 and Chloe have this place beat... by far.

by jfleming215

We went for Valentine's dinner, and it just didn't work. The cheese plate appetizer had good cheeses, not enough crackers (cheap water wafers at that), and all dry pairings... it just wasn't worth the $12, maybe $6. The salad was disappointing, it was tiny, barely any blue cheese or other toppings, etc. The scallops (the signature dish) was okay, but the special fish entree had no flavor. It looked nice, but tasted like water. We actually didn't even want to try any of the desserts and left in time to get to another spot for sweets.

For the cost of the food at Copper, you might as well get to one of the other local BYOs in Old City, spend less, and be much happier. My $90 this night went to waste.

  • Cons: Lights were up REAL high for v-day!

Lackluster Food and Terrible Service

by PhilaFoodie

I was here with a group of friends this past weekend. We had a rather early reservation and 2 people from our party of 5 were about 30 minutes late for the reservation. The others in our party ordered appetizers and by the time the rest of our party arrived, so did our appetizers. Our waitress constantly reminded us that there was an 8PM reservation after us. After we had our entrees, there was no rush to clear our plates and without even asking if we'd like anything else our server dropped the check and the table without saying anything and walked away. When she came back, we told her that we would like coffee and desert, but she informed us that she could not offer us any coffee or desert because there was a reservation at 8PM, and it was now 8:05. We were all quite disgusted with this, as we had made the reservation and were being kicked out of the restaurant. As we were leaving we then realized that the 8PM reservation was not even there!

After a lackluster meal (the gnocchi was swimming in oil?? and a pork chop served RARE- by the chef's recommendation) and such rude service, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I would, however, recommend Bistro 7 which is up the street a bit in Old City, which is a similar restaurant with much higher quality food and much better service.

  • Pros: Cute decor
  • Cons: Terribly rude service and mediocre food

Every bite was AMAZING!

by buckeye03

My boyfriend and I happened to stumble upon Copper last night. We remembered Aden being in the same location (an old favorite) so decided to give it a try. Copper has the same warm ambiance of Aden, but the food is much more remarkable (so much so that I am writing this review). I ordered the vegetable napoleon and a side of pumpkin gnocchi, he ordered the braised rib. Every single bit was amazing! The chef/owner was extremely friendly (sending over a complimentary order of mussels), as was the entire staff. We ordered pumpkin creme Brule for dessert, which was the perfect combination of pumpkin pie with the creamy texture of creme Brule. I overheard other customers commenting on how delicious their meals were, as well (the scallops seemed to be a popular entree as well as the venison). This restaurant is a must!

  • Pros: BYOB, intimate ambiance, quality service
  • Cons: Small (make reservations)

Everythings good, Try the Mussels

by walker13

Copper is quickly turning into Our favorite BYOB in the city. It has a small a beautiful dining room, perfect for you and your date or a party of 8. A nice open kitchen and friendly staff. The mussels are my favorite in the city, and the halibut with melon is a very unique and delicious dish. The deserts are decent but not as mind blwing as the food. They have a prix fix menu Tuesdays-Thursdays for $25 which is a great deal, but be aware that the portions are reduced, so those hungry enough to eat a horse may want to go for the regular menu. Menu goes great with either wine or beer, and remember order the mussels, you'll need a spoon and extra bread because you won't want to stop until every drop of sauce is gone!

  • Pros: Mussels, Ambience
