I've been going to a lot of different hair salons throughout Philadelphia over the past two years looking for a place where I leave feeling great and like my money was well spent . This is definitely, " the place".

Shay-ron is great. It really feels like you've just gone to a friends house to do your hair together, but with much better results.

In contrast to the loud, busy, rushed atmosphere of many salons, Ultra has that neighborhood appeal. During my apointment only one other client was scheduled and frequently neighborhood friends popped in to say hello and share stories.

The atmosphere, is quaint, yet professional, focused totaly on you!

Very nice job on the color and GREAT job with the haircut, exactly what I had in mind and very reasonably priced.

Best of all, I was the last appointment after a very long day (it was almost 8pm) and Sharyn treated me like I was the first client of the day and really took her time to do a great job which was really impressive to me. After my appointment I recommended this place to my roommate who agrees this is going to be "our hairplace" from now on. Thanks Sharyn!

Best Cut and Highlights Ever

I've had hair-salon phobia for most of my life - Ultra changed that! Sharyn is fabulous. She listens to what you want! In my experience, that alone qualifies the salon for 5 stars! She also takes into account what you're willing to do for upkeep. She does amazing highlights (mine lasted 4 months!) and a cut that continued to look great till the next trim. Gia did a great blow-dry to finish the job. All staff is very friendly and down-to-earth. No snobbery at this place - and for one of the first times in my life, I left a hair salon smiling!

GREAT COLOR - THANKS KRISTEN!

Kristen took the time to really listen to me regarding the issues I was having with my hair. I was in a color rut, very dark for way too long. Kristen spiced up my color with a warmer tone and subtle highlights. Nothing but compliments since. I feel like the rest of my features were softened and now my makeup even looks better with the new color she chose for me. Thanks Kristen!

great haircut!

I tend to obsess over my hair. I moved to the city about 5 years ago and continued to drive 2 hours back home to get it cut. With that process getting old I began to research hair salons in the city. After reading the reviews for Ultra I decided to give it a try. Sharon did a fab job of styling my hair. I have long thick straight hair and was desperate for a cut to make it sexier and more fun. I got exactly what I asked for ! I am hard to please when it comes to my hair so consider this review when searching for a good salon. Also, Gia gave my hair the most gorgeous blowout! Gotta try this place out!

• Pros: you get the exact cut you've always wanted
• Cons: cash/check only but thats not a big deal

... Thanks so much again, dear Kristen, it is honestly still the best haircut I´ve ever had!!!!!!!!!! And I really was trying to figure out how to come more often to you but I do a lot of crazy things but flying to Philadelphia from Germany to get a hair cut would be too much, unfortunatelly. So I just enjoy the cut and the compliments I get.

Have a great rest week and make more people as happy as I am. You really deserve the "Best in Phili 2009"!

Ultra Hair Studio- Great value 4 the money.

One of my favorite places in Philly. I say "places" rather than hair salons, because I leave Ultra feeling better not just about my hair but about life in general. The atmosphere is kitschy-cool and impeccably clean, they play music good enough for the stylists to sing to, they serve coffee in mugs with images that change as they cool, and Sharon and Kristen have incredibly positive outlooks on life. Of course, they also do great hair. I've gone to Kristen three times and she gives my straight hair the perfect amount of layering and angles (enough to give it body and style without it looking too funky - which is exactly what I ask for).

• Pros: love thats in my neighborhood!

Sharon has been my stylist for years and has given me flawless haircuts. She is a consumate professional and would never turn out an experience as described by " Erin". I have never left one of these reviews but felt compelled to speak up for another woman in business. A similar review was posted 3/26/08 under a different alias and slightly reworded. " .I ran to my car and tied it in a ponytail. " Obviously I am an attorney...

Ultra Hair Studio is the BEST salon in Philadelphia !

Sharyn takes great care with each client, and her cuts last for months without looking old. I've gone 9 months between cuts and still get compliments on them the day before I go back! She coaches her crew to be equally diligent, with wonderful results. I started with Sharyn in 2002 and will follow her wherever she goes!

terrible haircut

Sharon cut my hair and I have to say it was one of the worst haircuts I've ever gotten! She seemed more interested in chatting with everyone that came in and out of the shop than focusing on my haircut. When I left the shop, I immediately ran home and put my hair in a ponytail and wore it that way for weeks until the horrible haircut grew out. I went to a new salon after 8 weeks for a trim and even the stylist there commented what a bad haircut I had gotten. I would not recommend Ultra to anyone!

Best in Philly

Sharyn's been cutting my hair for nine years now. I went through quite a few salons, and mediocre-to-bad haircuts, before I found her. I missed a few years when I moved out of the city for a while--and I didn't have a decent haircut the whole time. I wear my hair short, so the cut is critical (it's hard to fix a bad one). Sharyn has never let me down. Her cuts (and color) are flawless. They wear well and grow out well. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the other stylists are great... I'd give ten stars if I could.

The music at the salon is great. They have a Bose docking station and let the clients share their music too. Ultra plays great music including lots of older punk, and some newer indie stuff, mixed with alternative, old school dance, pop, and techno....Random, good stuff to hear when they're chopping away at your head.

The salon is super clean. The salon's feel is kind of modern high-end salon meets kitschy retro.

All together, a color, cut and blowdry came to $160. which was totally worth it! I feel like a new person...which is good because I just got over an icky breakup and I need a good change.
