Great Customer Service
by rpcanada1979
I am a new resident to the Philadelphia area and have found a new study spot. The service here is great! Scott and Audrey are extremely friendly and the overall ambience of this cafe is perfect for studying or reading. There is even free wireless internet!
- Pros: Customer Service, Ambience
Best area coffeshop and a great gallery, too
by archer_c
When I moved here I immediately tried out all my nearby coffee options. Twenty-two is by FAR the best - they make a better cup of La Colombe coffee than the La Colombe coffeeshop, and they do it with a much warmer, more welcoming attitude. Its the water - the owner has an extensive filtration system in the basement. Its also the staff - the manager really knows her coffee and can make a latte or cappuccino exactly to order.
Meanwhile, the owner's father was a famous photographer in baseball's golden age and his classic photos of Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and others fill one wall; a rotating series of shows fills the other. The art is charming and sells briskly. Artists often come to sit in the cafe and talk to the owner. This makes it a great place to spend an hour or an afternoon.
- Pros: Great coffee, Strong local art, Service is so warm!
- Cons: Mediocre croissants
The best cafe and the best gallery in the city!
by rjabraham
Twenty-Two is an incredible gem in the Fitler Square neighborhood. The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming and comfortable and has attracted a cliental as diverse as the city - from artists to students to locals who've been apart of the neighborhood their entire lives. The owner and other employees are always friendly and are very knowledgable (about everything from sports to comics to local history). The gallery really adds to the community, and the cafe is a great place to study, read, or just sit and chat while enjoying a delicious sandwich from dibruno brothers and a cup of la columbe coffee.
- Pros: Free internet, Great Staff
favorite neighborhood spot
by cmbeatty
I've come to find this friendly neighborhood cafe to be indispensible. From its wireless connection and its mix of neighborhood regulars to its bright window and open layout, nothing I've found in Philly comes close to feeling as welcoming and accessible as 22. Its exhibits and wonderful permanent collection of photographs taken by the owner's grandfather also add to the spot's inviting nature.
- Pros: neighborhood friendly, tasty soups, snacks, wireless internet
- Cons: closes at 5
Setting the Standard for Neighborhood Cafes!
by mjwang
It doesn't get any better than this one-of-a-kind cafe/gallery near Rittenhouse Square... Enjoy a cup of delicious (and always hot) cup of La Colombe coffee or a DiBruno Bros. sandwich while surfing the net (for free!) or admiring the collection, including a permanent exhibit of black and white photographs of baseball greats Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, and others taken by the owner's grandfather. Despite the free Internet and good food, I come more for the great mix of students/art connoisseurs/neighborhood folks that make this a genuine community coffee shop as well as the friendly owner/staff always happy to chat about the art or the daily selection of soups and sandwiches!
- Pros: Good food/coffee, Free Internet, GREAT atmosphere
- Cons: They close at 5
