What an outlandish failure of an establishment

by Dilated

After enduring (and yes I do mean enduring) my experience at pico de gallo, I have to say you'd be hard pressed to find a more piss-poor mexican meal. The menu items, which come with next to nothing, are outlandishly overpriced, not to mention completely run of the mill and boring. Our waiter seemed more keen on sticking around our table and making asinine jokes than he was at actually providing us with decent service. The experience continued when our food arrived. The lackluster presentation was only surpassed by the utter tastelessness of every item on my plate. Wait, that's not fair. I can't say tastelessness, since everything there reminded me of what it might be like to chow down on a cardboard box. After getting through my crappy, overpriced, and under portioned meal and was liberated of most of my money, I could only think of how I wish I had gone to Taco Bell. At least they serve bad mexican food quickly and have the common decency to not talk.

I rated this a 1, but only because there's no option for 0.

Never Again! My $14.00 Gross Meals...

by phillyguy

I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla... noticed that it only came with cheese & chicken so I asked for them to add some peppers and onions in addition to a side of Guac.

The bill came and the waitress doubles the price of the Chicken Quesadilla. Seven Dollars on the menu she added an additional Seven Dollars for the side of guac. & veggies...

The food was gross & service VERY disappointing...

  • Pros: Great Location
  • Cons: Awful Food & Service

great night

by msbsouthpaw

Seated a party of 10 (including myself) late in the evening very quickly and w/o reservations. the staff was very friendly, funny, and accommodating. some might call the place tiny, others may describe it as cozy. i dig the dia de los muertos decor and other mexican paraphernalia, including prints of Frida Kahlo self-portraits in the restroom (a little creepy, but still cool). good, basic mexican fare that was not disappointing.

will definitely be going back.

  • Pros: friendly staff, decor, negra modelo!
  • Cons: tiny?

if you want great food with kitsch come here

by tokyophillygal

The gals who work there are most likely all students...yeah they aren't the greatest servers, but if you want great service go to Tequila's or El Vez and spend an arm and a leg.

My friends and I go here all the time. Many of them are vegetarian/vegan and the waitresses and cook staff try their best to accomadate. The last trip the waitress actually went back to the kitchen twice to ask if certain entrees were veg.

The chips are great. The margaritas are awesome. The decor is hysterical. The food is always excellent even if we wait arround asking for the bill or a fork.

Don't listen to all the whiny brats.....however dont go here if you are claustrophobic or on a first date!

  • Pros: margaritas are always quenching!
  • Cons: so the service sucks...big woop!

We ordered delivery last night and the food was bland and overpriced for the amount. Don't bother with this place.

eh

by redkoala

although easily drawn in by the attractive decor, pico de gallo failed on all other points. the staff was lazy, the food was very bland, and the close quarters made is so that i sat through my meal listening to the girl at the table next to me talk about shaving her vag*na. I looked back in the kitchen and it seemed like a couple of dudes just off their cigarette break doing the minimum to throw some mexican ingredients on a plate, no professionalism, no effort to make the food interesting. The quesadilla i got was something that I could have made myself at home-it was plain, lacking ingredients, and presentation. i wouldn't go here again, dont be fooled by the flare.

  • Pros: zingy margaritas
  • Cons: bland food, lazy staff

Horrible Food

by 2Foodies

Filthy bathrooms, rude servers, and horrible food are just a few reasons to avoid this food establishment. The chicken "fajitas", as labeled on the menu, are bland and the chicken was old and tough! The fajitas are not served sizzling hot on a skillet, but on a regular dish already prepared on two flour tortillas. If you don't mind nasty servers, dirty bathrooms, and old, bland food, tough chicken, eat at Pico de Gallo at your own risk. Gross!!

Good for when you just want to grab a bite...

by cvfilter

I wouldn't say this place is fantastic (the wait staff seems pushed to their limits), but it is pretty good. It's a good place to go when you just want to go out and grab something to eat. It's small, so you'll likely have to wait a little bit for a table (I do feel bad kind of hovering like a vulture over people as they finish eating - no place else to go, though). The margaritas tend to have some kick to them - they'll tell you, and you should listen. Meals aren't overwhelmingly large, either - which I think tends to usually be the trend with Mexican. I like it - a good casual "I want to go out tonight" place to eat.

  • Pros: margaritas, chimichangas, decor
  • Cons: too few staff, small

Great food/Good service

by kateski29

My boyfriend and I almost didn't eat here after reading all the horrible reviews on citysearch, but we took a chance, and I am so glad we did. The service was prompt and the food was awesome. The restaurant is no longer a BYO, but the margaritas were great (not from a mix) and (I thought) fairly priced. We went on a Thursday, so I can't comment on what the service would be like over the weekend. The restaurant is small, 8-10 indoor tables and a few outside, and with only 2 waitresses I imagine the service might get a little hectic if all the tables were filled. But our experience was great and I definitely want to go back. If you go, try the classic lime margaritas and the enchiladas verdes. They were so good.

NEVER AGAIN!

by phillyfoodee

This place is awful! The food is mediocre and the service is most definitely the worst I've ever had. Since I live nearby, I hoped this restaurant would be a convenient place to grab a casual meal. My first time was ok, but my girlfriend and I were the only customers in the restaurant. On our second visit, we waited 30 minutes to be seated, 10 minutes to have our orders taken, and another hour to get food (they couldn't even keep our drinks filled for us while we were waiting). I swore to myself that I would never go back, but I recently attempted to put in a to-go order over the phone. After answering the phone, the woman set down the phone and left me waiting for 15 minutes until I hung up in desperation. This place is terrible, and I would avoid wasting your time for an "ok" burrito.

  • Pros: OK food
  • Cons: Horrible Service
