Worse Indian meal
by foodu
Someone mentioned Buffet....and all I saw was a couple of mishmashed curried dishes. Why do people open restaurants when they do not have a clue what Indian cuisine is. The appetizers had old oil taste to it and things when downwards from there.I had gone back a week later to try dinner. I will not go any further than simply to say my visit to Indian Affair was just horrible. I do not care about service if the food is good. I wont even waste my time with mentioning anything we had. The owner ( a lady) tried convincing us (before the food arrived) how they prepared the meal and how freshly prepared it was. I rather have Pathaks curry from a can than an Indian Affair......and the PRICE S@#%$.
- Pros: nice place to take your friend for only a drink
- Cons: not food

I love Indian food and always read reviews and try to find new places. But, after recently visiting one in Norristown..Aman, I am glad you guys exist. Nice to enter your clean, bubbly place and enjoy the good food. Thank you..crew at the An Indian Affair.
- Pros: glad I found them last year
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT!
by ehn
I love this place! An Indian Affair has the most beautiful decor, hardwood floors, complimented by a wood beamed ceiling, framed scenes of Classic India, back dining room has cozy seating by the fireplace that overlooks the courtyard. Candlelight flickers as Classical India music plays in the background. Now I've eaten at ALL the Indian restaurants in Philly, they don't even come close to the quality, freshness & flavors of An Indian Affair! For appetizers, ask for their Special Mixed Grill, a tasty selection of meats and seafood grilled to perfection in the Tandoori Grill, served on a sizzling plate-great to share! Lamb Samosas stuffed w/spiced, minced lamb & fried to perfection! The Pakoras are another must-light crispy fried vegetable fritters. My favorite entrees are the Laziz Pasilyin-grilled lamb chops served in a light coconut curry. Chicken Mahkni-succulent cubes of chicken in a creamy, butter, tomato sauce. Prawn Malai Curry-large, jumbo shrimps, served in a sweet light curry sauce. All the Biryanis (Indian Fried Rice) are excellent-choose from shrimp, chicken or lamb. They have a large selection of Vegetarian Dishes as well-the Bhindi Masala's my favorite-Okra Curry & the Alu Gobi-spiced potatoes & cauliflower. And make sure you order the bread basket! All entrees can be prepared Mild, Spicy or Indian Spicy! Don't forget to have a Mango Lassi-a sweet, blended drink of fresh mango & fresh homemade yogurt-you'll be addicted, I promise! Now this is Delicious Dining! Prices are reasonable. Great lunch specials & weekend lunch buffet. It's BYOB, but the owner said they'll soon be serving liquor. Most Elegant & Romantic Indian restaurant in Philly! Great place for a date, large groups & take-out on those rainy days! They even cater! An Indian Affair is a must for all the Indian food lovers! For diners new to Indian cuisine, this is the place to try-the staff is very knowledgeable of the food, making the best recommendations!
- Pros: EVERYTHING!
- Cons: None
This is not Indian Food
by cloudnine
I highly recommend NOT going to this restaurant. I'm Indian and therefore clearly know what Indian food is, but this is not the place! I've been to many other Indian restaurant in Philadelphia, Cafe Spice, Karma, that are much better, even New Delhi Indian Restaurant had better food than this over priced so called Indian Restaurant. The service was horrible, and the owner was extremely rude! Make the trip to South Street and eat at Cafe Spice, that's an incredible restaurant! My mouth waters with when I think of Cafe Spice, from their meat entrees to all their vegeterian selections, it's incredible! Cafe Spice is Yum! Save you money DO NOT go to Indian Affair and head over to Any other Indian Restaurant! PS- I don't work for Cafe Spice, I just love their food and regret trying Indian Affair!
- Pros: I don't know of any
- Cons: where do i start? Food, service, price
Authentic Bombay flavor in the heart of Manayunk.

In Short
Don't let the schmaltzy name fool you--the dining room is stylish and intimate, with a sitar soundtrack that keeps the mood lively. Between the succulent tandori scallops, flawless homemade cream of tomato and coriander soup, and the dahi bhalla (lentil dumplings glazed with tangy yogurt sauce), it's possible to make an outstanding meal out of appetizers. An entree selection that includes lamb, chicken, duck, lobster, swordfish and almost a dozen vegetarian specialties.
Wonderful Indian Food
by micheleangelo
The atmospere was great. I am so tired of dimmly lit restuarants where I can barely read the menu. Besides, I like to look at my husband... LOL! Our waiter was fabulous! He was informative and excited about where he worked, and he worked with a smile on his face. The food was the best Indian food I've eaten. I'm not sure what the one revewer was talking about with the credit card thing, maybe their lines were down that day, that happens everywhere. Not sure where one of the revewers was talking about when they said moderately expensive, I feel we got a deal! I'm not one for diner mentality, lots of food lacking in flavor! We had the spicey level, one of five levels. First being mild, second medium spicey, third is spicey, fourth being Indian spicey, and last Tandori spicey. My guess is, you have to work yourself up to Tandori. I make Chai tea from scratch from a traditional recipe from India, it's truly yummy. Their Tea was nothing short of amazing to the palette. I love the mini Good-in-Plenty mints they had, they were so cute and the size of rice. What more can I say, my husband and I enjoyed our meal and each other because of our experience, not once mentioning our kids! I think it's romantic!
- Pros: Ambience
- Cons: I didn't know about it before
Mixed Experience
by mpbreen
The young man who waited our table Wednesday night was fabulous! Sadly, nothing else in the experience was at the same standard as his service. After we had ordered, we observed the diners next to us attempting to pay with a credit card. Only at that time did the owner inform them credit cards were not being accepted per a handwritten sign placed low in a front window. We were directed to an ATM machine a few doors away in bar with a $3.50 usage fee. If you own a restaurant, go hire this young man as I think his current employer may soon be out of business.
Great Romantic Dining
by admarkowit
My Wife and I started eating here after we tasted their buffet (a great deal when available), and have gone back several times since. The service is always great and friendly, and the food is always terrific. The owner often greets us herself and is available for any questions.
I highly recommend sitting in the back on cold nights near the fire, it adds a very romantic atmosphere to an already charming restaurant. We have gone there with friends who are vegetarians, and they too had a not only great food, but a great selection. Restaurant is BYOB.
- Pros: Romantic, Friendly, Delicious
- Cons: none
Iceburg Lettuce?
by haleybe
if you are devoted to amazing indian food, or even think that you have high standards and like the complex flavors of indian cuisine, DO NOT GO HERE! my boyfriend and i recently ate here, and to be honest, it was a complete dissapointment. i ordered chicken biryani and the rice was oily, and to top it off, they garnished it with....iceburg lettuce!!! the flavor was mainly just that of chili powder and it was not good. we were the only people in the restaurant, and the lighting was horrible (way too bright.) I am sure that if we were to make indian food at our house it would be much better. i cannot reccomend this restaurant.
- Cons: bright light, oily rice, iceburg lettuce
My Opinion
by alkrizin
Being new to the area and having many questions, I feel the staff was very helpful in choosing a couple of entrees. We did order carry out and from the brief moment I was in the restaurant I did like the atmosphere. The food was fantastic and we will be returning, however it is a bit pricey for the amount of food you receive (which is not so bad considering how glutinous we can be). We will be back!
- Pros: Atmosphere, Prompt Service, Friendly
- Cons: Moderately Expensive
