Our new favorite

We've eaten here 10 or 12 times over the last 15 months. The most recent time we brought nine people with us and had the dinner for 10 with some vegetarian dishes added. Very interesting selection and very, very good food and service. Of course, we have exchanged names with our favorite waiter--and this will help with service. I recommend 33 beer but one of our frequent co-diners prefers Singha. The proportion of Vietnamese to gringos has been dropping over the 15 months but is still very high. I'd love to eat here once a week but our busy lives just won't allow it. Suggestion--eat early for easier parking. Time before last we got there at 6 and had our choice of spots.
- Pros: good food, great variety, good value
- Cons: service sometimes slow

The eggplant with lemongrass is good and I also like the pork with broken rice and the stuffed grapeleaves alot. The place is big and good for a group. It's inexpensive and the service is fast.
Great vietnamese food at great prices

Nam Phuong has a huge menu with any kind of Vietnamese food you could want. The servers leave you alone, so if you just want your food and to hang out, this is place. (If you want a nice dinner with attentive servers, try somewhere else). The food is good, and it's great prices. The place is also large, so you won't have a problem getting a table. I'd send any Vietnamese food lover here.
- Pros: Great prices, large menu, good food
- Cons: ambience, inattentive service

As a Vietnamese from California, I found the bun thit nuoung cha gio greasy & sloppy. Not many choices in Phillie, though. Better than Chinatown VN restaurants.
Best Vietnamese in Philly

Everyone raves about Vietnam in Chinatown, but this is where Philly's Vietnamese go to eat, so you know it's good! Their menu is more extensive than most, and you almost can't go wrong. The pho is good... you can get better, but that is usually at places that serve little more than pho. One of my favorites is the banh hoi nem nuong... a dish of grilled pork meatballs that you wrap in rice paper with various vegetables and noodles and dip in yummy peanut sauce. I've heard complaints about the service, but regulars know you don't really go here expecting top notch service. Your waiters will not check on you throughout the meal, and you don't have to wait for "your" waiter to ask for something... as I was told early on, everyone is your waiter here. Anyway, the food is well worth it. One warning... be prepared to fight for a parking space on the weekend.
- Pros: Great food, good value
- Cons: Service for those not used to it, parking is a terror on weekends

This is a great place for large or small groups. The food is fast, inexpensive and delicious. The service is good as well. A wonderful place for pho. Enjoy!
- Pros: excellent food, inexpensive, easy parking
- Cons: ambience, not really a date place
As a Vietnamese...

This is my favorite restaurant. I used to go here every weekend. The food is superb, and I'm speaking as a Vietnamese, who is also a very picky eater. This is good Vietnamese food. I'd list my favorite dishes, but the list would be too long and I don't know how to say it in english.
- Pros: Good food, Inexpensive

There is no shortage of Vietnamese restaurants in this part of South Philly/Bella Vista -- Nam Phuong is the best. The food is delicious, fresh, and prices are ridiculously low. The needle noodle special, pho, vermicelli bowls, spare ribs in ginger sauce - everything is outstanding. Sometimes service is a little disorganized (like 20-30 minute gaps between when diners at the same table get their food), but they've got a full bar, so you can just relax and wait... knowing that when your food does come, it's going to be wonderful.
- Pros: excellent food, diverse menu, bar
- Cons: service can be spotty
Viet-Denny's

Like Denny's, the food is exactly what you came for, and like Denny's, the service is slow & you kind of get that 'wow this is taking way too long in this giant room' sort of vibe. The wait is worth it though, especially if you put back a few beers and chill out in the meantime.
- Pros: price, good parking
- Cons: long wait for food
