NAIL FUNGUS
by mainlinemommy
I had made an appointment 3 weeks in advance for a speciality pedicure. The pedicure was supposed to be 15 minutes more than the basic pedicure, but I waited 15 minutes and the service was only 50 minutes. She left me while I soaked for like 10 minutes and then did a choppy job with my nails. The paint job was smudged and I asked to get it fixed and the technician, who had moved on to her next client rolled her eyes before she quickly fixed it. To top it all off, I have a nail fungus in my big toe now, and that was my first pedicure in 3 years BECAUSE i am nervous about cleanliness but was reassured that they disinfect their equiptment thoroughly. I called to complain and left multiple messages and the owner never bothered to return my calls. NEVER AGAIN.
- Pros: nice receptionist
- Cons: Bad hygiene
Skip the waxing!!

I had my eyebrows waxed at Ame. I should have listen to the previous reviewer because, for $22 I must have paid for the location. For $8, those Vietnamese ladies at most nail salons do a neater and more professional job. When I got home, I had to pluck out my own stray hairs, and my family and friends said it looked like there was no difference. :( I plan to give the salon another chance with a pedicure another time.
- Pros: friendly staff
- Cons: terrible wax job
Gained points with my wife thanks to a spa gift certificate!
by pappyhumor
I got my wife a gift certificate at the suggestion of my daughter. My daughter has nothing but wonderful things to say about this place so I hoped my wife would like it. She wanted a new look and certainly came home with one, and I think she looks great. (OK she is helping me write this!) She says Brandi did her hair cut and color and made her look years younger. Kathryn did her manicure and pedicure. Now she wants a new ring (just kidding). My daughter told her husband what a "good idea" I had and he called me for the information.
Guys out there-she is so happy I had to write this. I usually use this site for restaurant reviews and she told me I had to write this review too!
- Pros: relaxing, spotless, individual attention, skilled professionals
- Cons: I have to buy more gift certificates now
Fabulous haircut- leave feeling pretty!
by gilbey513
I have to say I have never been loyal to a stylist ever- I am a reformed Supercuts girl- but after I received a gift certificate for my birthday last year, I went in for a cut and color. My stylist Heather did an excellent job with the color- it was my first time going darker and I was thrilled. I left feeling twice as attractive as when I went in, and that's what it's all about, right? I have since not gone anywhere else to get my hair done!
Also got a pedicure that was excellent last fall too!
Good hair... HORRID Makeup
by uh_huh_her
Ame was highly recommended to me by several people for hair and makeup for my wedding day. I recently went to do a "run-through". The woman who did my hair was good. She was patient and willing to try a few different things until we came up with something I was happy with. She even knocked off some $$ because it was only a trail run. However, when it came to make-up I was seriously disappointed. After telling the girl twice that I want something soft, subtle and feminine, she gave me heavy dark brown eyeshadow (I am very pale skinned, blonde hair and blue eyes), unblended eyeliner that looked like two solid lines on my upper and lower lids, foundation that didn't match my skin tone at all (it had a lovely orange hue on me) and uneven dark blush. I didn't get see the finished product until she was done, but I was speechless when I looked in the mirror. I went home and immediately washed my face.
I am going back for my hair on my wedding day, but I would never go back for makeup.
Worst Massage Ever; Beware of Eyebrow Wax
by ddw123
I am an experienced spa attendee, having received over 100 massages from over 20 different spa facilities. This was by far the worst massage I have ever had. The masseuse appeared to be a newly-converted nail person, because she was also responsible for my pedicure that still was not dry 4 hours after I left the salon. But back to the massage. I purchased a 90 minute massage, and almost told the masseuse to stop during the first 15 minutes. She had obviously been trained in the "techniques", but had no awareness of the muscle structure she was massaging, because the techniques were often applied incorrectly. Add on to this that she did not have a smooth and calming approach (tended to do things very quickly, no fluidity in transitions from one movement to another), and I wanted to jump off of the table. I will admit that she was better on my legs and feet, but my arms, neck, head and back suffered greatly during the 90 minutes I was being massaged.
I also had a disastrous eyebrow wax. The technician was very quick, and in her quickness, she thinned out one eyebrow enough that I now need to use an eyebrow pencil (something I have never needed) so that the end of my eyebrow doesn't disappear and appear off-balanced with my other eyebrow. Additionally, the technician did not wax the bridge of my nose evenly, and now my eyebrows are lop-sided.
After returning from my spa afternoon, and realizing the fate of my eyebrows, I called the salon to apprise them of my experience. They apologized, and promised to get back to me within 1/2 hour with a solution. I never heard back from them.
I will NEVER return to this spa, and will not recommend it to any of my spa-loving friends.
I'm sooo jealous

When I lived in PA I frequented (then) Pastore's I saw M'liss for hair and Diane (Di) for nails and wax eventually massage body treatments and facials.....Because of all the great people I came to know and love there I decided to go away and get my license in Massage and Esthetics with the hopes of working there (now AME) when I came back to PA. Long story short I still haven't moved back but this would be the first place I would go if/when I do...for a job and or services!! I think I started going in 1994 and as long as I was around the staff was WONDERFUL...not to mention the fact that Lori Pastore as an owner/manager does what she does so well that I never saw any "turnover" in staff...all I ever saw was GROWTH...I rem when Brandi was the baby of the place and had just started assisting....as a client past and hopefully future and a present employee in the industry that speaks volumes to me about the people and the place....I love my job and home in NC but on the slim chance I ever get back up there I would love to work and play there....I've seen the way things are run there and I've seen other places and it gets no better than the folks at AME!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Pros: AMAZING owner management and staff..
- Cons: hmmm...lets see maybe that you don't have a "sister spa" in NC for me to work in
This Main Line day spa and salon appeals to the spiritual side of outer beauty.

In Short
Just a half block from Lancaster Avenue, AME has trasformed a plain Wayne house into a serene terra-cotta pagoda. The decor is earthy, yet upscale. Japanese screen doors open to service rooms. Lounging areas include a sunroom with curved wooden chairs and private spaces with velvet-covered chaises. Orchids, fountains and votives abound, maintaining the feng shui. By far the coolest treatment: a heated, dry flotation waterbed called Soft-Pack, which promises the equivalent of eight hours of rest in 20-minutes.
Great ambience, service, and super friendly staff!

I love this place! Maria was my hairstylist and she gave me a perm. I went from boring stick straight hair to subtly wavy. I've received many compliments! I also got a half leg wax and the woman who did that was great. She was quick, friendly, and made me feel comfortable.
The amience of the spa is VERY relaxing...and it's only 15 minutes from Philly:)
