Worst food that I have ever eaten
by phillysoccer
I ordered takeout fajitas on Jan. 11, 2009 and I received the worst food that I have ever bought from a takeout place or eaten in a restaurant. There was very little steak and chicken and the meat that I got was very dry and overcooked. For some reason there were carrots and broccoli in the mix of fajita food. There was no cheese included and only 3 tortillas for the $15 fajita order.
I recommend for everyone to avoid this at any cost.
- Pros: Fairly fast delivery
- Cons: Food quality
Mexican food
by Ilovephily
When this first opened I was there all the time. Unfortunately it has gone down hill in quality and service. The waitress is always rude when we come in. The meats in the tacos are fattier cuts than they used to be when they opened. The burritos are filled with more rice instead of quality meats. Its time for me to find a new mexican restaurant if they dont get it together soon. Dont get me wrong the food is still authentic and I hope the owners will not keep on sacrificing quality. the food is no longer cheap as well so if they are going to charge 12 dollars for chichen mole I dont want fatty chicken.
Saborita de Mexico... A little tast of Mexico
by stinafeminista
I consider myself to be part Mexican (even though I'm not) since I have lived there and visited so often and every time I come back I miss it, especially the food. While not the absolute best, it's still as authentic as you can get without actually crossing the border. I love that they have a varied menu of food from the different regions- (no, not all Mexican is the same.) and if you order the same dish more than once, it's always a little different- just like Mexico. The atmosphere is very casual and honestly, you just can't beat those prices. Great for us poor college kids.
Keep the following in mind: As previously stated, this is a pretty authentic place- and that?s in all aspects. If you go to a restaurant in MX, the service is very slow, you may get your entree waaayyy before everyone else, etc. In fact, it?s considered rude to ?bother? the customer while they?re dining or even to bring the check before it is asked for. Having said that about their customs, they?re just doing what they know - offering the complete Mexican restaurant experience. By American standards, the service might be poor, but then again, this is a little taste of Mexico, not a 5 star restaurant in Center City, or even a Denny's. If you can speak Spanish, I highly recommend doing so, or at least trying to order in Spanish. I've gone in every once in awhile and caught one or two in a foul mood, but they were all smiles as soon as I broke out in Spanish... and my acquired Mexican accent, which I'm sure helped.
I've tried some of the other more authentic Mexican places in the city, and I can honestly tell you that none of them have better quality, selection, taste or prices. Definitely give it a try, and if you have a bad experience, give it another shot, because it's worth it.
- Pros: Great food, great prices, good place if you have kids, nice place to start or end your evening with a meal
- Cons: Not good for a romantic night out, or if you're looking for more ambience. Service is touch and go by American standards.
Watch out for poor service

Excellent food, but at times has terrible service. Last time we waited 45 minutes for the food to come out after ordering it.
Worst Dining Experience I've Ever Had
by bkwaz
We wanted something quick and my girlfriend wanted Mexican so I thought we would try this place since it was close to my house. Our waitress seemed annoyed that there were people eating in the restaurant. When the waitress came to take our order she barely said a word to us. She was very short with us when we asked questions. The food took forever to come out and it wasn't even that crowded. While waiting I noticed that she had forgotten part of another table's order, which happens. However, she went behind the counter and took apart a takeout order and barley even bothered to put it on a plate for them. When our food did come out, it was cold. The waitress never came back to check on us or even see if there was anything we needed. I wasn't expecting four star service but I didn't expect customers to be treated as a burden to the business.
- Pros: Quick seating
- Cons: Slow, Rude Service. Cold Food
Its like going to Mexico and having great authentic food - just here in Philly.

First thing I liked was the place - simple, very clean, open to the street with friendly people of all types coming & going, in a lively spot on S. 9th St - it felt like a warm summer evening south of the border. I wouldn't call it "atmosphere" but the unpretentiousness and liveliness of it made being there as enjoyable as the food.
And the food was excellent - simple and fresh, freshly prepared (everything recognizable without any of the awful American version of gloppy mexican food). The chorizo tacos were the best but everything was just right. Service was ok but the kitchen was a bit slow - though everything is freshly prepared and was worth it. This is my new favorite Mexican place!
- Pros: Simple, fresh, tasty food with as authentic a Mexican taqueria atmosphere you'll find anywhere.
- Cons: None (unless you are expecting something fancy - in that case this isn't the place for you)
SUPER BUENO

I never really liked Mexican food here on the east coast but was converted when I actually went to Mexico. When I came back nothing came close EXCEPT for La Lupe. Their burritos are by far the most solid item on the menu. And they have a good selection of mexican juices and sodas as well.
Horrible Service (Not a language issue either)
by heels07
I went to La Lupe, ordered take-out and was told to come back in 25 minutes (which is a long time for a few tacos but that's not why I'm writing this review). All was good. I came back about 30 minutes later, asked the lady at the counter if the order was ready, she said something like "it's coming" so I stepped to the side and waited. A half hour later I was still waiting. I asked for my money back and all I got was bad attitude and slowness from the lady behind the counter. All I wanted was my money and a simple apology for loosing my order and not owning up to it earlier -- "Sorry you had to wait" or "sorry we lost your order". If they can't manage that they deserve to go out of business tomorrow.
- Pros: food looked good
- Cons: horrible service, horrible service, horrible service
Best Authentic Mexicn Food in South Philly
by potus2008
The best home-made from scratch corn tortillas. I've been to other mexican resturants in the area and they seem to use packaged tortillas. I highly recommend there #49 Al Pastor tacos (pork) or #53 Pollo (chicken tacos). If you like guacamole then #28 Nachos (chips) con (with) Guacamole is exellent. On there platters #94 hands down Enchiladas De Mole Poblano are my favorite this is a platter with three chicken enchiladas with a special (spicy)sauce, and rice and beans. Tamales #19 or #20. If you try this place once you'll definately go back. Parking can be a little tricky but I learned that this will just benefit your metabolisom. Finally their (cocktails) # 102 or #101 the last time I had this was in cancun. This is not a alchoholic beverage but a great healthy dish, well good luck and good eating there is also free delivery.
- Pros: Great Food, Free delivery, very reasonable
- Cons: Parking
