My wife and I and our friends thoroughly enjoyed the wine dinner held in honor of Thomas Jefferson. The speaker was excellent. I highly recommend attending a future wine dinner night.

Pros: Informative Speaker, Entertaining Wine Night

Cons: Renovations are nice but acoustics still can improve

As an extablishment trying to portray itself as "fine dining", Caffe Gelato should look within itself and embrace all that comes with this title. Attempting to cover up bad or unfavorable reviews on their own website is hardly the way to conduct an honest business in such a cut-throat industry. Perhaps the food, beverage and service should be what speaks for the company and not the owner trying to cover up his lack of committment to what is truly valuable to the guests.

Cons: The doors are open.

My boyfriend and I went out to dinner and had never been to this place. It was very nice inside, and I had recently heard that an addition had been added. The place was beautiful, awesome candles in the wall and everything looked very classy. We didnt wait for a table at all, got seated and given our menus and soon after was greeted by our waitress. Our waitress was very nice and was very attentive to our table. We ordered the calamari which was delicious, along with some salads that could have used a little bit more dressing, but were delicious as well. I ordered a special, the mahi mahi and the presentation matched the taste. My boyfriend got the ravioli and he loved that as well. Both meals were large enough where we could take some home, def got more than you pay for. The gelato was great for dessert, Ive never tried any but it was very tasty. Overall, I loved the atmosphere, service and food. The place is a little pricey, but it was an occasion for us... so why not.

Pros: awesome food/service

Cons: more dressing for salads, i wish they also had a martini list

I TOTALLY RESCIND MY OPINION REGARDING CAFE GELATO. RYAN, THE OWNER, THROUGH HIS DEDICATION TO GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND OWNERSHIP, MADE THE PAST SITUATION RIGHT. HE IS TO BE COMMENDED. HE WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE PAST OCCURANCE, LEARN FROM IT AND MAKE IT BETTER. I WILL RETURN AND I WILL SEND OTHERS TO CAFE GELATO. RYAN DESERVES A ROUND OF APPLAUSE. THANKS RYAN!! While the dinners and lunches at Cafe Gelato are extremely tasteful, their best "hidden" gem is definitely their Sunday brunch. It is reasonably priced and tastes delightful! It is not you typical brunch, rather a fusion of your regular breakfast items (eggs, french toast, waffles, etc.) with some unexpected flair ( seafood omelet, apple and brie omelet, paella, and paninis). We have been dining at Cafe Gelato for years and recently discovered the brunch and absolutely love it - it has become a Sunday favorite!

Pros: Great food, easy validated parking

Cons: Wine dinners fill up fast

Cafe Gelato is my preferred lunchtime restaurant in Newark. Prices are very affordable and there is never any waiting for a table. The Panini sandwiches are the best you will get anywhere in Delaware and the same can be said of the Gelato selection. Coming to Cafe Gelato and not ordering some gelato would be like going to Disney World and not getting on any rides! I recommend trying the gelato flavor of the month because it changes monthly and is always unique but good. This is not the typical cookie-cutter restaurant that you see everywhere else in Newark and that is what makes it great. I work in a building down the road and come to this restaurant a couple times a month and the service has never been anything less than satisfactory. Come here before or after the peak lunchtime hours for the best service if you are a diner that requires constant attention. They do a good job. I have only come here for dinner maybe two times because I don't go out for dinner too often but both times have been positive experiences. The girls I took here really liked it and I thought the dinner menu was great as I am a big fan of Mediterranean cuisine! If you are a guy looking for a great date restaurant and have not been here yet you definately need to try it, just take out that girl you've had your eye on if you don't have a wife! Plus now they have a brand new bar, although I haven't been there to experience it yet, so you have to like it! Oh yea, park in the parking lot behind the restaurant to avoid the annoying mainstreet parking situation, the restaurant will validate your parking. Hope this has been of some help! Now that the renovations are complete I would rate it higher than Highly Recommended if I could, cause this place rocks! Sorry I'm passionate about great restaurants, but this is one of the states very best!

Caffe Gelato is far and above the top restaurant in Newark and the surrounding area. The restaurant offers Northern Mediterranean cuisine, with lots of pasta, seafood, and meat entrees. One previous review cited an unchanging menu as one of the cons of the restaurant, yet when I was there two nights back, our server pointed out three new appetizers, two new entrees, a new pasta dish, and the daily specials sheet, which features five distinct entrees for dinner every night. We sat in the newly-renovated side of the restaurant in one of the spacious booths on the side. The lighting is perfect, complete with candles on the wall and a romantic, intimate, but not overwhelming atmosphere. There was also a classic violinist playing while we were there. Even though the restaurant was packed with customers, the service was great, with friendly hosts, competent management, and an attentive wait staff. We never felt cramped or confined. I had the Mediterranean pasta, the creamy feta sauce was perfect and my girlfriend had the fennel salmon, which was exquisite. The owner came by our table, chatted with us for a few minutes, and even took us on a personal tour of the newly renovated part. Although the hostess offered to check our coats, I would recommend holding on to yours, as it can be a little drafty in the new part of the restaurant. Other than that, our dining experience was great and Caffe Gelato is highly recommended!

Wow. Caffe Gelato has pretty much the best gelato all around. There is an entire display case filled with about 24 different types of gelato, from raspberry, to my personal favorite, baccio (a chocolate hazelnut). What makes it even better is the free samples you get before deciding on which decedent flavor to get. Not only is the gelato amazing, but also the food. We have had many events catered by Caffe Gelato, each with a different menu. Everything is delicious, and the presentation in incredible. If you ever need a party or event catered so you are able to socialize and enjoy yourself, Caffe Gelato is the place to call. By having our events catered, we had one less thing to worry about and could focus on having a good time. The servers who come are very professional and do their best to accomodate you and your needs. Overall, I would definately reccomend Caffe Gelato to anyone!!!!!!!!! Also, they just expanded the restaurant into the former music store next door, so there is much more seating available and it is just beautiful! There is a new bar and wine cellar and the ambiance is incredible.

Caffe Gelato continues to be our favorite place to visit for a great meal and relaxing, candle-lit atmosphere. The recent expansion of the dining area is beautiful and has allowed for more spacious seating, while maintaining the excellent food and service that makes Caffe Gelato the best dining experience around. The Pork Tenderloin With Mushroom Risotto is quite possibly the best meal around. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

We went to Gelato on Saturday night and had Valentines Day dinner. They do a special menu for a few days in a row so you don't have to out on one of the most busy nights of the year, what a great idea. Every thing was great from the food to the service and it looked like they had some renavations done, there is just so much space. We cant wait to go there again soon, we heard they have a new chef and new menu items so we are going back soon.
