This fusion restaurant needs fine tuning before it can please the theater-going masses.

by Contributor

In Short
The Kimmel Center's restaurant has a tough act to pull off. Packed solid before shows, Cadence must quickly serve complex New American cuisine to typically exacting, orchestra-going diners. What's more, the minimalist design--a long, narrow third-floor dining area with rows of sleek tables--presents a long kitchen-to-table trek for forgetful servers. The ambitious menu spans burgers to bouillabaisse and includes slow-cookers like coq au vin and duck sausage stew.

fun place

by iheartsmith

the menu that citysearch reviewed is an old menu. the menus change with the seasons (about twice a year), which definately keeps things fresh at the kimmel center. they have a great wine list, the servers are so nice and accomodating, the bartenders are a lot of fun (they also make a mean tiramisu martini!). the food is good- there is definately a "regular" crowd here. i would recommend coming here for drinks and appetizers out on the terrace- you can't get a better view of philly anywhere else. the one qualm i do have about cadence is that it is only open when there is a performance in verizon hall. when asked about this, they said that there isn't enough demand to be open all the time. i guess this means that you should go check it out!

  • Pros: service, wine list/drinks, food
  • Cons: not open regularly

get it straight

first of all, Cadence is not only open on performance nights. it is open wed night though sunday brunch every week, in addition to performance times. #2, it is not complex new american cuisine. it is the style of a contemporary french brasserie. #3 it opens at 5pm, not 530. now that we've gotten the fallacies out of the way & the facts in... service: if u want to be in and out in an hour, with all courses included, then u should try the food court at bellview. its a RESTAURANT. furthermore perhaps people would have time to eat dessert if they did not show up at the restaurant a half hour late for their reservation. I have eaten there, the food was amazing, the cocktails are fun, the servers are friendly. i reccommend it for anyone who enjoys the ART of dining, not just "going out to eat".

  • Pros: pre/post theatre, sassy and classy, great food
  • Cons: closes at 8 for dinne, post perf menu slim

A dining experience to remember

by beergirl2

When I dined at Cadence, I didnt' know whether to overlook the amazing Kimmel Center or the awesome view of Broad Street. The only thing to top the view is the food. The french brasserie menu is elegant and delicious. Definitely a "can't miss" for tourists and locals alike. The service is wonderful, everyone on the staff was friendly. I can't wait to dine at Cadence again.

  • Pros: beautiful, delicious food, friendly staff

perfect service accompanied by great foo

by sixmesix

wandering around the avenue of the arts on a wednsday night, i ventured into the kimmel center and found a fabulous staff at cadence restaurant serving happy hour drink specials and appetizers underneath the kimmel center's arched glass ceiling. it proved to be a romantic night that could be spent indoors or outside on the terrace overlooking broad street. i will definately be returning for more of cadence's friendly and efficient service and their tantalizing menu.

  • Pros: wait staff, specials, atmosphere
  • Cons: parking, no advertising

Cadence Rings Another Bell

by kobiboi

Cadence makes for an ideal dining experience. With a great setting, within the heart of the Avenue of the Arts, and its vibrant appeal of elegance, it creates an atmosphere ideal for its brasserie style. the food was fantastic especially its chicken paillard and its crispy duck asian salad. i will definately make reservations for my next trip to the kimmel center.

  • Pros: good parking, comparitably priced, nice atmosphere
  • Cons: short time span

TRY IT - YOU'LL LOVE IT

by KFORA

Did your editorial writer actually eat here??? This place is great... The food is delicious and inventive, the servers are very attentive and knowledgable. I have been eating here since the place opened last December and although there have been a few changes to the menu, the quality has been consistent . The crabcakes are delcious, moist, and ALL CRAB! The Chicken Paillard is wonderfully prepared and very flavorful. As far as "slow service", maybe we patrons need to consider making a reservation with enough time alotted for dinner prior to the show! I have seen people walk in without a reservation and expect to eat 3 courses in a half hour! Come on people, get real. If you want a delicious meal, give yourself enough time to actually enjoy it. I say give this restaurant a try and judge for yourself. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

  • Pros: EXCELLENT STAFF, DELICIOUS FOOD, LOCATED IN KIMMEL CTR

Cadence Chimes In

by SkyGuyX

Cadence not only is elegant but also has great attitude to back it up. It has wonderful dimension that ranges from the terrace to the lounge and to the exquisite restuarant which has an array of color. The food is impeccable, everything from the lobster bisque to the dessert is fabulous. I was impressed with the wine list, in which i enjoyed the Pinot Gris. I will absolutely dine in cadence the next time I visit the Kimmel Center.

  • Pros: brasserie style, convenience, service
