I've been a sweat member for 6 years. I go to the 24th street, center city and queen village locations and workout 5-6 times per week. I don't understand where the few negative reviews on City Search are coming from - they're totally ridiculous. I'm a petite, unassuming looking woman and I feel very comfortable working out at Sweat. It isn't a pick-up scene like Ballys -it's actually not a *scene* at all. People are really there to exercise. Folks using the gym are curteous and friendly. It's never so crowded that you can't get on a machine or can't get into a class. The front desk staff always greet me with a friendly hello. They usually play good music (which I don't think is too loud - it's a gym - it's not like you can hear the music over your ipod). The equipment is in good condition, they keep it VERY clean, the cardio equipment is all hooked up with individual tv monitors, etc. Pete is an incredible kick-boxing instructor and Megan is one of the best yoga teachers I've ever had. I love Sweat. To the guy who was upset about being kicked out for grunting - good riddance. Sweat has very publicly stated "no grunting" and no dropping dumbells rules. And for good reason. It sounds so disgusting and is offensive when some muscle jock is grunting at the top of his lungs and then slams the weights onto the ground. It's really disruptive to other people's workouts and just plain rude.
Pros: Best trainers and instructors anywhere; great locations; amazing classes
Cons: The only con I can think of is that the women's locker room is cramped

Sweat 24th Street is a great gym for many reasons. It has a friendly, knowledgeable staff at a convenient location. If you really want to sweat take Jacqui's Friday morning spin class, her music selections are a plus. Otherwise, take advantage of the personal training staff to add structure and discipline to your workout. Sweat's prices are affordable. My only complaint is that Sweat gym is missing some of the extras such as a sauna, steam room, and whirlpool.
Pros: You can go to any of Sweat's 4 locations, Frequent promotions
Cons: Bare bones locker room

SWEAT is a great place! This gym maybe be smaller, but it provides the local gym-goer with everything they need to have a good workout. I enjoy the gym and think the facility and staff are very good.

The Sweat in Manayunk is just ridiculous, and I don't mean that in a good way. From guys coming to the 'work out' in their Polos and flip flops to the girls with excessive jewelery and makeup, on their cell phone. I, for one like to come to... work out like most normal gym goers for the physical aspect, being fit and staying healthy. I find it frustrating that I can't get on one of the treadmills, bc some girl is on it pretending to get a cardio workout while twirling her hair and gossiping with their 'work out partner!' Quite frankly- I think of it as a three ring circus! I do have to say that I love the staff though- they are great, and the plasma tvs are a plus- too bad it doesn't make up for the frat party that is going on around me- but it does make you want to work out hard and quick, you have too to keep your sanity! But if you still want to go because it's convient- here's a secret- Thursday and Friday after work is clutch! It's empty and you can get in and out without a hassle- I suppose the patrons feel that they've workout hard during the week and can reward themselves with a beer or 10! Also, Sat and Sunday morning is another good time, I suppose people are too hung over to come in then!
Pros: The Plasmas and the location
Cons: Everyone in it.

I have been going to this gym for about a year now. It is a comfortable and unpretentious place. The staff has always been very friendly to me. The yoga classes are my favorite.
Pros: Variety, great classes
Cons: Very cheesy music sometimes, but it adds humor to my workout so it's not too bad

I can't believe I just got thrown out of a gym for training to hard. I am a physician and a powerlifter and have never been thrown out of anywhere. I read a review here that there staff had bad attitudes, but tried a trial membership anyway. Like most powerlifters at the end of the heavy set I have some forced phonation, small grunts, no yelling or acting wild. The desk girl comes over and in a very rude and condescending manner tells me to " tone it down you are being lude." I had to ask her if she was serious. It was Sunday and there were literally about 4 other people in the whole gym. I was wrapping it up because I couldn't stand the negative energy from her. When she and the maintenance boy came over with my ID in hand and grabbed the machine I was on and told me to leave. I was mid rep and tweaked my shoulder. I asked for the manager. She lied and said she was the manager. I asked who was her manager. She gave me the wrong name. Then the maintanence boy tried to say he was the manager. I remember seeing her when I walked in and thinking that she had a sour look on her face for a gym employee. But dismissed as a hangover or something. Boy was I wrong.
Pros: I like yellow
Cons: The staff is RUDE
