Staff has attitude

by rockstar2

Last time I went in the staff gave me that attitude like I was wasting their time coming in. The selection wasnt that great and I agree twith the other reviews that the quality is just thrift-shop (which makes sense since all the clothes are Goodwill). I didn't buy anything and probably won't go back. It's just charity gone corporate and I'd rather support the boutique shops.

  • Pros: really big
  • Cons: poor qulaity, bad staff

With this vintage-clothing spot, you'll never have to dig through bins at a thrift store again.

by Contributor

In Short
Tinged with incense and irony, this spacious store boasts bright retro wares in tall windows along South Street. Inside, neatly divided sections of men's, women's and kids' clothing--plus a generous amount of home accessories--offer select vintage pieces garnered from remote donations. All profits benefit Goodwill Industries' job-training programs.

goodness oh my oh my

by bubbabip

so, first off, if you are too lazy to go driving around to every village thrift and goodwill in the tristate area every day, then this is a good stop for you. the prices reflect that they have to do that for you, so while they might not be at the same price scale as second hand stores, they are much much cheaper then NY, SF, or LA vintage prices. i have been to vintage stores like it for years in every major city and much smaller ones, and it actually is priced quite reasonably, especially the jeans, which you can get mavi and lucky's for $9. that is actually the only thing i end up buying there, but i have much better luck there then anywhere else, and now that gas is so expensive i don't relaly go random thrifting anymore.

  • Pros: awesome, close to my house, hot boys
  • Cons: no band shirts, on south st, dusty

Retroshopping made new

by donnadee249

I had never been to a vintage or thrift store before I went here and I fell in love with vintage shopping. There are so many different things at Retrospect that are actually new or barely used that you forget it's a vintage store. I bought a denim jacket with a playboy bunny on the back for $20 that had never been worn. I would definitely recommend you at least browse this store. There are also some nice bowl-plate sets.

  • Pros: Inexpensive, Unique, Variety of items
  • Cons: No parking

so-so

by pocketpea

the best stuff is always in the windows, which somebody does a great job on. otherwise, it's all the typical suspects. and yes, it is a little pricey for the usually mediocre quality finds. the reason to go to a vintage store is for the boutiques' unique personality and specific taste in their findings. retrospect lacks an aesthetic and merely caters to what they think the hip kids are looking for. give the kids more credit...i would rather spend the day thrifting.

Huh?

by thrifter

A lot of variety, but has the look and feel, of a typical goodwill. The merchandise is much better than a typical thrift store, but much of the stuff is still cruddy (unclean, stained, smelly, etc..). Better quality clothing is to be found at Antiquarian's Delight. The prices are not justified at Retrospect since they get their stuff for free. I would recommend shopping elsewhere, such at the Antiquarian or other vintage shops---where the prices are comparable and you help the little guy stay in business. If you do take a look in here--you might find a really great bargain, and you are benefiting charity, but expect to do a lot of diggin!

Elvis on Velvet-What more could you want

by Phillygirl19147

retrospect is the best place to find cool clothes nobody else is going to have. it's got a cool vibe, good music and the sales people are pretty helpful if you need them (which is rare for south street...) anyway, last time i was there i found an Elvis on velvet and a couple really thin vintage tees - the prices are decent and if you have one of those 10.00 coupons it's that much better... Philly definitely needed a place like this.
