Beautiful interior for a food court. Convienient location for tourists. Across the lawn from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall Cute, reasonable souvenir shops. Good "Philly Cheesesteaks"! Clean Clean Clean

Philadelphia resident George E. Bartol was so enamored of a Bourse (the word means "place of exchange" in Middle French) that he saw in Hamburg, he decided to build his own. Completed in 1895, the building, with a huge skylit great hall as its centerpiece, housed Philadelphia's stock, grain, and maritime exchanges. Technologically, the building was very ahead of its time--pneumatic tubes allowed for a direct connection between the building and the U.S. Post Office. The Bourse was renovated in the 1980s into its current mall-esque incarnation.
