For little more than this chain's typical $20 cut, guys can upgrade to a full grooming experience.. In Short
Tapping into a growing trend, this full-service salon was designed with the modern man in mind. Many locations provide complimentary beverages (read: beer) and some strategically set up TVs so guys can pass the time watching sports while getting their toes buffed. Classic barbershop services include haircuts, color and hot towels, but newer takes on male grooming go as far as mini facials, skin-conditioning paraffin hand dips, scalp massages and waxing services.

Absurd obligatory options. They don't give you the option of getting just a haircut. You have to get the facial, parrafin wax and hand treatment all together for 43 dollars. Sorry but that is ridiculous.

a mans place. comfort and attention even for old guys, nice people, and clean place. easy to find and my wife liked me gone for a while. they didn't make me wait and my hair looked good. I'm going to take my son next time.

I'm taking my business elsewhere.... Their comprehensive grooming package is enticing, which includes a mini-facial, paraffin hand wax, scalp massage, cut and style. And while the stylist was very courteous, attentive and skillful, frills fail to compensate for the core foundation of any business, customer service. In my opinion, the management falls pathetically short of accommodating the customer. I found the representatives at the front desk to be arrogant, callous, impatient and aloof. They seem to have no interest in retaining business, perhaps because they are content with the size of their existing clientele. It's a small facility and, consequently, it appears as if they have to book clients back to back without any breathing room. On one occasion, I arrived approximately 10 minutes late after battling traffic for over 45 minutes from the suburbs. Upon parking my car, they called to inform me that they would not be able to offer me the main service which motivated me to take the trip in the first place.

There are other games in town and salons have to cater to the client as long as the expectations are reasonable. I'd recommend checking out Style of Man. It's a very similar salon with two Philadelphia locations (one right across the street inside the Liberty Place) and far superior attention to customer satisfaction from my experience.

Quality Service. Where else can you watch the phils game, drink an ice cold beer and truely like getting your hair cut. Between the paraffin you dunk your hands in, face and head massage, you tend to slip away from reality for a little (especially after a long days of work) Besides all that, you can actually trust the fact that you will get what you asked for, even if it's not the same person. I have found American Male to be consistant every visit, and I will definately continue to go back.

Average. Nothing more. nothing less.. I made an appointment and they were able to see me on the same day. They offered me a beer when I got there. Overall the atmosphere is nice and the staff is pleasant. The girl that cut my hair did a great job with the facial massage. You get a face and scalp massage and this parafin wax cr@p on your hands (that does nothing) for an extra $5. The haircut was $33. The haircut was okay..actually it was a little lopsided. All in all I would say the for the price the place is medicore. I am not going back.

Great Concept, poorly executed.. Great, conventient location. Free beer and TV while waiting.

The pricetag for a basic haircut is less than many places in the neighborhood, however; I overheard that stylists are provided company training but are hired right out of beauty school. Although the staff was pleasant, the lack of experience with the stylist i saw showed. I would rather pay $50 in Rittenhouse with someone who has been working for many years. Was expecting better after being referred by a friend.

Nothing Like It. I couldn't get over it - the best experience I've had in a long time. This is no ordinary haircut - I can only recommend this to everyone - I bought gift certificates for all my friends because they must try it for them selves. I got 3 words for everyone - Paraffin Hand dip!

not worth it. great atmosphere, but bad haircut. Seriously, my sideburns were not even the same length after I left this place. Best thing is that they rinse your hair after it is cut. More places should do that.

The Perfect Haircut. After moving to Philadelphia this past year, finding a new place to get a haircut was a challenge. The same barber had cut my hair my whole life. Once in Philly, I tried several salons but they were all geard towards there female clientle and rediculously overpriced. All I wanted was an unpretentious yet pampering salon. When I stumbled upon American Male, I was blown away. The girls are friendly, the beer is cold and the game is on. I wish I could get my haircut at AM everyday. My favorite part of the "Experience" (Which it truly is) was the hand dip and manicure. It was just extremely refreshing to find a salon ( or any business for that matter) that really knows what their customers want and then delivers excellence.
