Rising up from the Dust. I have to admit i have only recently been going to the Perky even though i have lived around the corner from it for a long time now! There is a new owner and he is freshening things up in there! The food was good and the atmosphere was relaxed. I could go and have a drink without a millions people touching me that i don't even know! It feels good to be able to walk outside and have a cigarette while trusting my coat inside! Anyone who hasn't been here lately should come and check out the new pool table. Also the owner is having some little events i.e. a ping pong tournament and other fun little things. I think everyone should try out the Perky again!
Actually Sarah, the only trash in Oaks is the Perky..
Ironic that you think the problem is the properties AROUND the bar. I know some very hard-working, decent families who unfortunately can't afford to live in Mcmansions, and own (not rent) property next to the Perky. (Economic class prejudice much?) Up until recently, the Perky was divey, but not nearly the nuisance that it is today.
The reason the surrounding properties look trashy is because there is no point bothering to make their property look pretty. This is because 1. drunks keep throwing their trash in people's yards, 2. drunks vandalize the surrounding properties, and 3. the property value has plummeted for some completely mysterious reason.
Not a good place for single females... Creepy men..
My friends and I went to the Perkiomen over Thanksgiving break. We found the place to be pretty nice, but the men there are pretty creepy. We had several older men(40s-50s) come up to us and start talking to us. They said that they were "regulars" there. After they propositioned us and then tried to talk to touch one of my friends, we paid the bill and got out of there!
I mentioned the incident to one of my guy friends in Collegeville, he said that it is not a safe place for girls. That apparently this bar is next to a couple of dirty rental properties used as a half-way house by ex-cons!
SarahP1980,
I would like to apologize for your bad experience at my establishment. I recently purchased the bar from the previous ownership, and I am trying to make lots of improvements to make sure that everyone is comfortable and has a good time. I know this kind of thing has happened in the past, and I am trying to change the perception of some people like yourself that hesitate to come back. I would like to offer you and your friends (as many as you can bring) a complimentary drink, and appetizers, to change your opinion. you can Contact me at
perkycafe@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Josh
