You'll see work by three generations of Wyeths in this renovated 19th-century grist mill. – In Short
N.C. Wyeth built his home on Rocky Hill in the village of Chadds Ford in 1911, and the whole Wyeth clan (including Jamie and Andrew) were raised there. The emphasis of the collections here is on the art history of the Brandywine Valley, including the nation's first lithograph--a Chester County scene entitled House and Trees at Waterside by Bass Otis. The Brandywine River Museum now owns and maintains the land and buildings. Visitors can take tours of the studio and house.

Haunting Wyeths – My appreciation of American art began at this museum. Though the museum features artists other than the Wyeths, it's the work of the talented family that keeps me coming back. Christina's World, the large pig: These works and others reflect the simple beauty of a quiet way of American life. Make sure to walk around the rear of the museum by the Brandywine River and check out the bronze statues. Children are especially fond of them.
