Great little store. This place is fantastic. While it looks like a little hole in the wall, the selection for such a small place is nothing short of amazing. The staff is always helpful no matter how busy and I've always been treated great.

For people like sciencebzzt, you can't please everyone. Hopefully, this person will never come back. Suffice it to say, his review will not stop one single person from patronizing this place.

No, I'm not affiliated with the place, but just don't like anonymous idiots trying to trash a place because they're either 1. too young to purchase or 2. don't know how to behave themselves once they're in the store.

In Response to: "Very Dissapointed Customer". Dear Caig17,

We're glad that you're satisfied with your "Vapor Buddy" purchase. As far as your concerns for the product you purchased from our store, it was indeed a REAL "Vapor Buddy" and not the "knock off" version. We take great pride in our inventory, and apologize for your angst in the matter, and rest assure it is unwarranted! Any concerns that you may have, always feel free to call!

All the Goods!

Very Disappointed Customer. I purchased The Vapor Buddy last Saturday from Artifax in Philadelphia. The store is actually really nice and the product line is vast.I started to talk with one clerk about how I was looking to decrease my tar intake and he recommended the Vapor Buddy.Clearly, I walked out of the store with the product and was at the time happy with my purchase and the customer service I received.Anyway, I tried the product out when I got home, and the taste was very different. I decided to do some additional research on the product and read online that there is an identical knock off version of The Vapor Buddy. Unfortunately, this version when tested by an independent laboratory, had a very high level of lead in it. This link is on gotvape Website (Vapor Buddy lead paint test), which has the results for the both the Original Vapor Buddy and knock off version when being tested for lead. The company GOT VAPE sells the Original Vapor Buddy and the testing proves that this version has no lead in it.Anyway, I called Artifax to find out if they bought this product from a reputable distributor, since the product did not come in a box and there is nothing on the pipe with any kind of trademarkThey told me that Dynamite Distribution is the organization they buy their Vapor Buddies from. Unfortunately, this company has no sort of Website or information online, so I could not clarify which version they were selling to Artifax. When I discussed my concerns with person at Artifax, I could not really get a straight answer from him.He actually told me that if it was a knock off, lead burns at a higher level than tobacco products, so he really put me at ease (WTF??).Since, I bought the product last week and they have a 14 day return/exchange policy, I asked if I could bring it back.He told me that if it was unused I could return it, knowing that I had already tried it. So my options at this point are. to use this product that may or may not be contaminated by lead or flush $100 down the toilet.

It's been said: watch what you say!. A few friends and I took a trip to Philly the other day; me, being the only one old enough to actually buy anything legally, went into Artifax, but my friends had to leave. My friends had a pretty small price range, so I called them, asking what it was alright to get them (making sure I did not mention anything illegal, because I knew that'd get me kicked out of the shop). After I got off the phone, the guy said to me: "you can't say that, I don't know how old your friends are, you have to leave and I can't sell to you." The store had a great selection, and at pretty good prices too: so we drove twenty minutes to Wonderland, another shop with much higher prices and a smaller selection, and we got some pieces there, but it was still somewhat of a disappointment due to the high prices and everything. So again: Artifax is a great store, but you REALLY gotta have what you say on major lockdown.

Awesome.. I came in there a couple days ago and was very impressed. Not only is their selection fairly large, it's also well priced. Also, the guys there have a great knowledge of what they're selling; one gentleman went into full detail about how different glass is created and the techniques that are used to display certain qualities that i haven't seen in other places. Go there.

Nice Little Store. the staff is friendly and they have a pretty large selection of glass,

the only thing i didn't like about the place is that they didn't have any "best baaaang for the buck" pipes, like the molino mad scientist or bushmaster cyclone, or anything similar (with a similar price tag)...

other than that, i recommend the place

good quality, good staff, good enviroment. The guy that helped me in artifax was really chill and helpful. They had a very nice pieces and pipes and good quality. They also had an assortment different styles and unique glass pieces. Its a small store but the selection makes up for it. Yes they do ID, it's their job so kids don't waste your time.

I Heart Philly's Primo Head Shop - Artifax. I broke my friend's fancy water pipe last week and in our search for a replacement - both of us in CC - we were looking to avoid a certain Walnut Street shop's higher prices. We tried online shopping and that did not go well (beware of sketchy online head shops). I tried finding head shop listings anywhere. And then I found out about Artifax (thanks craigslist ranters).

Upon googling, I also found an article saying they had been recently closed down by a right-wing organizing effort generating police action. But happily, as it turns out, Artifax has been serving their community for 30 years because their business license is for the literal selling of myriad head shop items including, and I quote, "dr*g paraphenalia." I called first & spoke with a friendly gent who said indeed they were open. Indeed they offer a huge selection of glass pipage. And I got good directions.

We snagged a CarShare car and headed up the Boulevard for a fabulous field trip. Artifax is really quite the wonderland of gorgeous smoking apparatus, especially the colorful & artistic glassware. They also offer wood, metal and a variety of small pipes to large bongs and hookahs. As well, all the "dr*g paraphenalia" you could ever wish for.

My friend found a beautiful and reasonably priced blue/green bubbler, as well as a hard shell case for travel (and to keep me from breaking another one). And I couldn't resist picking up a little green swirl looping hand pipe and soft case. My only complaint was there were too many options. For a second I was sure I 'needed' a hidey canister that is a coffee or coke can, but then the moment passed. Needless to say we could have shopped for hours and maxxed Will Smith's Visa card. But we left happy with a promise to return. And to spread the word.

No need to go to Walnut Street. No need to go to Jersey. Right up at Cottman & the Boulevard in a basement store is a little gem of a head shop/community resource called Artifax.
