lousy at best. one of the worst cheesesteaks we ever ate no taste but i guess people think you eat the fame, bobby flay, cant beat the worst i find this hard to beleive
Nice. Tony Luke's serves very delicious meals. The ambiance is great and there are very nice people inside the restaurant.
This place has a great vibe!. This place is nice to be around. there isn't too much in the way that distracts you from enjoying a nice cheese steak.
Best Roast Beef in South Philly. Prices have creeped up, almost better to go to the Melrose, but if you are on the way to the sports complex it would be worth a stop here (depending on the line, the service has slowed down as well). You can't call ahead (forget about it). Still have great sandwiches, Liscio rolls.
Decent Sandwiches, No Place to eat 'em.
As a child, I made a number of trips from New York to Philadelphia to visit my relatives. For some odd reason, we only ate the usual fare that you can find in pretty much any big, American city. I never ate an authentic Philly Cheese Steak.
I returned to Philly recently on a business trip with a colleague who was determined to try the staple invented in the City of Brotherly Love. Having seen Tony Luke's on the Food Network (Man vs. Food), we decided that was the place to go.
Finding our way there in the dark of night, we found Tony Luke's in a rundown, semi-industrial neighborhood near the highway. The establishment is on the street where people make orders and then stand around in small crowds on the sidewalk waiting to be called.
My colleague got the roast pork sandwich and I got the original Philly Cheese Steak. Even with the small crowd, the service was fairly quick. When we got the sandwiches we were a little disappointed in their size, but they were hot and fresh, and they tasted okay. The only real problem is that Tony Luke's has no indoor seating, and you have to wait for someone to vacate one of the small tables out on the sidewalk if you don't want to sit in your car to eat.
I would not say that I'm disappointed. We travelled all the way from one side of Philadelphia to the other to eat at Tony Luke's. Overall, their sandwiches are decent, but not worth an extended road trip. Next time I am going to eat at Geno's.
disappointed!. I came up to Philly from Baltimore to visit friends. We saw Tony Luke's on Man vs Food, and decided to go there for dinner. I could get over that it was in a weird, dis-invested area, but the food was the most disappointing factor. I ordered a cheesesteak, but you would have thought I had ordered beef wellington for how long it took. Then when I got it, it was the most tasteless, ordinary sandwich imaginable. I've had better at Subway! I guess a little fame has gone to their heads, and now they are trying to get by on the name. Too bad...
Unimpressive, and uninteresting..
I went to Tony Luke's because a friend of mine said it was the best cheese steak in Philly contrary to the reviews on City Search. I wasn't surprised, my friend has no concept of what good food is and the reviews didn't lie.
While placing the order I asked the guy at the counter to explain what "Broccoli Rabe" was. He looked at me dumb founded and said "its a bitter sauce". Only after I got home I found out its just a type of Broccoli. Good job knowing what you are serving.
Then it took 35 minutes to get the cheese steak, preceded by a 35 minute wait in line to even place the order. I had my cheese steak with onions and sharp provolone, I didnt ask for something out of the ordinary so I dont know why it took so long.
Finally after getting the cheese steak I open it up and immediately ask, wheres the cheese. Turns out the cheese, which there wasnt much off had embedded itself into the top half of the hero. There might as well as have been no cheese, I couldnt even taste it. On top of that the bread was cold.
The meat itself was flavorless, luke warm, and lacked any aroma. The onions looked like they have been sitting for a while and lacked flavor as well. The mushrooms in the other cheese steak were from a can, not fresh.
If it wasnt for being really really cheap I would have been royally pi$$ed.
Tip: Save yourself the time and effort and just get a cheese steak somewhere else, preferably not at any of the hyped up tourist traps like Pats and Genos(Friends went, also said it wasnt good) or Tony Luke's.
Watch the servers at Tony Lukes Sports Bar.
Visited on 6/01/08 and found the food and service measured up to the reputation earned. We each had the famous roast pork and seasoned fries.
Watch the servers: We left a five dollar tip for a twenty-four dollor bill ,cash. We elected to put the meal itself on our credit card. Upon checking our card balance the next morning we found the server had charged us an additional twenty percent on the recipt she submitted. Our reciept clearly shows the total for the meal only. We expressly informed her we had left a cash tip before we left.
Not the best anymore. their cheesteaks used to be divine, but now they are like everyone else's. you pay way too much money for a steak because they can barely spare the cheese. if you dont mind a steak with hardly any cheese than eat here
Roast Pork Italian - Incredible.
Tony Luke's is a Philly tradition. If you're looking for a cheesesteak or a chicken parm sub, this is the place to go before a Flyers, Phillies or Sixers game. And now they're even open on Sundays before Eagles games! But if you're looking for the absolute best roast pork sandwich on the planet, then Tony Luke's is the place to go. The roast pork Italian comes with either broccoli rabe or spinach rabe and SHARP provolone cheese. Without hesitation I can honestly say this is the single best sandwich I've ever tasted. The pork has a delicious spice, the rolls are cooked on-site, the broccoli rabe has a nice zing to it and the cheese is melted heaven. Honestly, if you're a Philly guy, you know this place. If you're not and happen to be in Philly, do yourself a favor and head to Tony Luke's. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
PS: They also serve breakfast! The scrapple, egg and cheese on a hoagie roll is insane. If I still lived in Philly, I'd weigh 300 pounds from eating here every day - LOL!
