I went there yesterday with my girlfriend who is black. They followed her around and made comments suggesting she was going to steal their rummage sale rejects. What a bunch of backwards ignorant fools!

Verbally Abused, Harassed and Discriminated Against!!!

I am also another family member that was harassed by the evil man that works here. Let me just say that I have never in my life been treated the was we were treated in this store. There were (2) very pleasant young women working at the counters (the one with pink especially). This man followed us around as if we were a bunch of thieves and wispering to the other employees to make sure the cases are locked? Seriously? My purse is worth more than his weekly salary and he thinks we are going to steel his over priced junk? The first thing he said when we walked in was DON'T TOUCH THE FURS! Now why in the World would I want to touch the mangey furs he was trying to sell on a 100 degree day? The sadest part was that we were walking down the stairs to continue shopping and he ran us out of the store wit his verbally discriminating comments. "I called that as soon as you walked through the door"? What is that supposed to mean? We are all well dress, intelligent women so I am not sure what gave him that idea. The young ladies behind the countere were mortified by his outburst and the remaining customers jaws hit the floor. I will never ever step foot in this place again which is a shame because I love antique shopping. This place will go out of business with him working there. Vendors and Buyers Beware!!!!

Verbal Abuse! Prejudiced! Will not return!

I am also one of the 7 other family members who visited the Antiquarian's Delight. While visiting my daughter, a long time Philly resident and retail manager, we were excited to visit what was heard to be an amazing antique establishment. We were met by a pleasant vendor at the very front of the store (pink hair) who made us feel welcomed and wanted to make sure we knew that there were many individual vendors within the building who would be happy to answer any questions that we may have. Once we stepped past that pleasant woman, the atmosphere changed. We were given to once over by a very sour faced man on the right front side of the store. As we passed, we overheard him say to the other vendors nearby that he hoped they locked their cases. I brushed it off thinking that perhaps they had the cases opened for customers prior to our arrival and he was just giving them a reminder. Our family, all adults ages 26 through 71, proceeded to walk around looking at all of the various items they had to offer - jewelry, furniture, pictures, vintage clothing etc. It truly is a potpourri of wonderful items. After seeing what the first floor had, we decided to go to the lower level while keeping in mind the items that we may want to return to the first floor to purchase. I was the last family member to walk past the irritable man towards the steps to the lower level as he was counting how many people we had in our party. He asked me how many we were and I turned to him, smiled and said 8, as I too counted to make sure we didn’t leave anyone behind. That’s when this man verbally attacked me as he yelled behind my back “Eight people in your party and you didn’t buy a thing. You touched everything in the store and didn’t buy anything. I knew it as soon as I saw you walk in the door”. I was so stunned by what he had said that I turned around to ask him to repeat himself. He once again said, “I knew as soon as I looked at all of you that you were not going to buy anything.” I responded, “We aren’t finished shopping yet, but we are now!!” My other family members were also so insulted that they exchanged words with him to let him know how rude and unprofessional he was. We went about our day shopping at other establishments in the area with vendors who were genuinely happy to have us in their stores. Some we purchased from, some we did not but we always felt welcomed no matter what. We were sure to thank them for having us in their stores while mentioning how poorly we were treated at Antiquarian's Delight. They too were shocked at such treatment.

The real disservice from this encounter at Antiquarian’s Delight was to the other vendors in the building. Because of his unprofessional treatment, none of us will ever return and I am certain the other shoppers that witnessed the incident feel the same way. He should be removed from the establishment. If he has ownership in the place, the other vendors should find a new place to set up shop.

Words of wisdom to the unprofessional, rude and irritable man:

Word of mouth is worth more than any purchased advertising can give. Unfortunately, this has caused all of us to promote this establishment in a negative light.

Think before you speak and NEVER bite the hands that feed you!

Just to reiterate a bad experience of 7/24/10

I am one of the 7 family members that had the chance to visit Philadelphia "THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE" and Antiquarians Delight. I' m a long time retailer/buyer as is my niece, whom we were visiting, and pride ourselves on our stores customer service and upbeat environments and would never, ever treat a single customer or POTENTIAL customer the way the "FUR COAT MAN" treated my family and I from the second we stepped into the store. We are all adults, enjoyed browsing the many nostalgic items within in each vendors booth and even struck up conversations with a few of the vendors. To have this man make a comment behind our backs within earshot about "I HOPE YOU LOCKED YOUR CASES" to his fellow vendors was rude to start, but for him to make the comment about the "8 of us not making a single purchase and we touched everything in the store and knowing it the moment we stepped in the door we wouldn't buy anything " was unprofessional and beyond belief. Never, ever would I, nor my staff make such a ridiculous comment to a single person that stepped into our door. Sadly, the downstairs vendor lost potentially 8 customers as we walked out of the store after giving "Fur Coat Man" our piece of mind. Here's to you, you idiot! Bad news travels faster than good. Get a change of life...somewhere in a cave.
