Nice homey spot amidst the tourist traps in South St. You can have a nice, quiet meal in there & feel like they care, because they do.

Gets overlooked due to more high-profile neighbors, but great local place. Arugula salad, grilled calamari, veal piccata...works for me!
I'd take a pass on La Fourna. The food was ok; my veal was a little fatty. What really ruined the experience was the owner, Al. He was over the top and mistreated both customers and employees. His behavior made our dining experience most uncomfortable. I would skip on La Fourno unless you enjoy a tyrant in action.
Great food and unbelievable service. I have been to La Fourno a few times now, and each time I have received the most unbelievable service. Most recently we hosted a guest from out of town, and Al who is one of the owners, personally insured that we were well taken care of, which we most certainly were by Francis our server. During my previous visit, I stopped there with friends after a day of exploring the city. Again we were personally attended to by the owner, who actually called the owner of Society Hill Playhouse and arranged for us to see the show that evening! Each time we have been there, the food was plentiful, creative and delicious! This is one of my favorites.
Wow what great food!. I was very surprised but I loved this place - it has amazing food, great service and the atmosphere is very authentic. I can't wait to go back - I always love to experience new cultures and this is like a blast from Italy
Nice joint. Good food and nice place to have dinner. I look forward to bringing the family back again. Try the fish.
A little slice of Italy on South st.
We just went to La Fourno last night and will definitely be back again and again. We were with 2 other families for our traditional visit to Philly for Christmas. There were 11 of us which included 5 children from 8 to 14yrs old. The owner was wonderful with the children. The ambiance, the service and the food were phenomenal. From the veal in the veal parm being so moist, the pasta dishes to die for, the brick oven pizza done to perfection, to the amazing deserts, it was well worth the visit.
I can't wait to go back!
Best Italian food anywhere!!! Outstanding customer service!!!. My boyfriend and I recently made a trip to Philly. We followed the great reviews on this site and ate at La Fourno. The reviews couldn't have been more accurate. The meal was fantatstic!! The wait staff was friendly and courteous. They have a dinner special where two can dine for $60. This includes appetizer, main course, dessert, and cofee. We couldn't make up our minds and decided to have the special. It was simply delicious. I had shrimp marsala and my boyfriend had lobster ravioli. They were generous in portions and we couldn't eat everything! The ambience and decor were great too. I can't wait to go back. If you're looking for a place to dine at an affordable place (or not) and want outstanding service and food, this is the place to go. It is defiinately Philly's best kept secret.
Suprisingly great Italian food on South Street. I have avoided this place and all others on South Street for yoears and stuck to "South" South Philadelphia restaurants for Italian. Big mistake. This place is really really good and still autentic Italian food, (Just like you would get in Rome, Bologna or Florence). The staff is very friendly and the food is great! I have never written a restaurant review before but thought I really should since this is our new favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. Grazie!
great service. can't believe that it took me this long to find it...this place was simply amazing. the service is the best that i have had in the city. they were doing all that they could to make us comfortable while they were waiting, and the wait was not even 10 minutes. the food was amazing and the portions were generous. i will definitely be going there more often.
Great all around. This place is wonderful--the food is amazing, the prices are very reasonable (my DELICIOUS pesto linguini was $8.95 and came with a salad!), and the service is very nice. There's a sign that says that they're byob on Tuesday and Friday nights...I'll definitely be returning for that! Perfect place for family, friends, or a date, I loved it!
