Editorial Review for Sarcone's Deli – by Rachel Rogala
In Short
Meat and cheese slicers flank a sandwich assembly line. While sandwich builders construct, the foreman takes orders at the cashier. Sarcone's bread is famous in Philly: it's soft, dense and chewy--perfect for sopping up flavors exuded from sandwiches doused in vinegar, oil and dried herbs. The menu calls them hoagies, but these local delicacies aren't your typical corner-store subs. Try hefty combinations that go by names like "the Booch:" roast beef, asparagus, sharp provolone.

Insider Tips
When To GoThe bread supply often runs out before lunchtime ends, so come early--especially if you plan to take a loaf or two home.
Know Before You GoCall ahead to order hoagie trays, antipasti and side orders of olives stuffed with provolone, roasted garlic, hot pepper or prosciutto.
The ExtrasSouth Philly crooner Sonny Averona's CD is the one non-food-related item sold here, but the music goes perfectly with a little proscuitto.

'nuff said - my favorite is the turkey. The bread is fantastic too - just be sure to get there before they run out - yes, they are THAT popular!
Pros: The food, the people, the location (right by the italian market)
Cons: Sometimes they run out of bread and you are without a hoagie - tragic...
