What People Are Saying About Jim's Steaks

In Short – This Philadelphia institution is considered a front-runner in the great cheesesteak debate. That's why customers line up on its noxiously sanitized sidewalks at all hours. The steaks ooze grease, which seeps into the roll and makes the entire sandwich a mind-blowing experience. Make sure to get fried onions on top, and don't try to sound well-heeled by ordering some kind of facy cheese like provolone. Jim's famous cheez wiz will do perfectly fine.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- The servers at Jim's have something of a reputation for rushing customers and barking at them when they don't fork over their cash fast enough. Out-of-towners will find themselves stunned by the rude treatment.

Great place to grab a steak sandwich....when any of my friends are in from out of town this is where we go hands down. Sometimes you will be waiting in line, but that is to be expected....its worth the wait, trust me! This place lives up to the hype, check it out.
JUST ATE AT JIM'S

I just got into Philly while on business, I stayed at the Omni, had a beer at the bar and asked the bartender how far Pat & Genos were from the hotel, with a look of disgust on his face, he said it was in south philly and was a decent drive. He then said that they were over hyped , over rated and I must go to Jim's, several patrons at the bar chimed in and said JIMS STEAKS! you have to try em
So I walked the 6 block in the snow and found Jims. The line was short but it was only about 6 on friday and it is lcated in a bar type neighborhood. I thought the guys behind the counter were friend and damn fast, I tipped a couple buck and the guy who took the money behind the counter genuinely appreciated it, i am guessing the constant flow of 20 somethings don't tip.
I had mine with whiz and onions and had a beer ($2.90 for a beer!)
the roll was hot and fresh, the steak was tender and moist , the onions and whiz set it off. it was delicious and certainly a great philly experience.
When I left I said , Thanks guys! they ALL yelled back Thanks!

Best Around

After reading the bad reviews on this site, I knew I had to say my piece.
These are the best cheesesteaks in Philly. They also have another location in Northeast Philly which is much bigger.
Anyway, they are simply amazing. Anyone who says differently doesn't know what a true cheesesteak should taste like (especially those out-of-towners)! Trust me, if you want a real cheesesteak and some delicious cheese fries to go with it, go to Jim's Steaks. You won't regret it!
- Pros: Fast service, best cheesesteaks.
- Cons: A bit expensive.
