In Short – Housed in an 18th century granary, Bistro Romano is a dramatic dining experience. The entrance opens to a bar with a copper wall fixture rescued from an old steamer ship. The downstairs dining room is striking: Exposed-brick walls from a one-time tunnel network under Society Hill are now filled with candlelight and wooden booths. Typical seafood fare favorites include mussels and clams that are served with slices of sweet Italian sausage in tomato broth.

Lovely atmosphere, excellent food, efficient and pleasant service--what more could you want? We spent a delightful evening with my nephew and his girlfriend. We all raved about the food and service. The Caesar salad was fabulous!!! Pat & Rich / Phoenixville, PA

Amazing Valentines Dinner...

by Jerz Legend at Citysearch

When we first arrived their is parking a block down so that was great. We came 30 minutes early and they still sat us, when we sat we were at a very small table which was uncomforable, so we asked to go to a bigger table and they were able to move us to a much more comfortable table which was alot more romantic. The seafood was amazing, and our canoli for dessert was out of this world. And for coming they gave us a $20.00 gift certificate. GREAT RESTUARANT AND WILL BE BACK SOON!

  • Pros: Seafood out of this world
  • Cons: Seemed rushed

Great experience, excellent meal

by countrygirlkate at Citysearch

I'd never been to this restaurant and was invited to attend a surprise birthday for a friend. A party bus picked us all up in Maryland where we live and took us for the hour drive to Bistro Romano.

I have some photos posted here on my blog but Citysearch does not permit me to post the URL. You can see them perhaps by googling Chronicles of a Country Girl super fun happy (it's what I named the post).

A section had been reserved for our party of 22, downstairs near the intimate wine cellar room. We were given a set menu to order from and I chose the Chicken Putanesca. My only complaint is that the caesar salad, so widely touted, was very much on the wilted side with too much dressing. The flavor was still incredible but it was just a tad disappointing. The Putanesca was divine, as were the roasted vegetables. We enjoyed a layered birthday cake and the coffee was excellent. One of the best cups of coffee I've been served in a restaurant, quite frankly. The atmosphere was unique. Superior service.

The unique wine cellar, located under the street and part of the former network of underground tunnels in Society Hill, is the place for that romantic dinner.
