To cheap for it's own good.. I felt that the food was sitting on a steam table for days and absolutely not fresh. The spinich pie was so dried out I could'nt cut it. The fish that they served , which they said was fresh, was clearly frozen.

In the end, I was sick for 2 days after eating there. I do not believe the cheap prices are worth it .

cheap, but ... remember it's cheap!. No vegetable we ate was fresh. It felt more like eating in a diner, you know, a diner!

My big, fat, Greek favorite!. This is a place for those who enjoy good food. If you didn't like the food, servers or atmosphere then go somewhere that's trendy and dark! This is all about good food, enjoying a cocktail and people watching if you like sitting at the bar, it's a great spot. Tom, the owner and his staff are friendly folks who enjoy what they do and they do it well. And when the soft shells crabs are in season it's a treat to go to SSS!

Great Greek food at a cheap price.. My boyfriend and I were on South Street and we never tried this restaurant. We were seated promptly and the wait staff was courteous and helpful. The owner was standing at the bar and came over an introduced himself. Very nice man. As an appetizer, we ordered the spicy feta dip. It was delicious. Then came our entrees. I had the greek combo #1 and my boyfriend had the gyro combo. Both were awesome!! We would have had dessert but we couldn't eat everything the way it was. The ambiance and decor was nice. The bottom line is: for cheap eats and an excellent Greek meal it can't be beat. This will be a must the next time we are on South Street!

Simply good greek food. This was the first place I've ever eaten at on South Street, and I've been back several times. The service is extremely quick, and servers are friendly. Gyros, platters and felafel are absolutely delicious. This place is not expensive and great for a good, quick meal.

Yuck. The food was absolutely disgusting and not very fresh. The server hovered the entire meal and when I said I didn't want to take home the left over appetizers he freaked and asked about fifteen times "Are you sure everything was okay?" I've heard so many good things about this place but was very disappointed.

Great Greek. Nothing fancy here, just stick-to-the basics Greek cuisine. Hummus dip and grilled octopus are both winners, as is the soulvaki, despite the marinated meat filling being a tad overcooked. But for $5 a sandwich, who is complaining? Finish your meal off with excellent baklava. Overall a great meal at an even better price.

The city's oldest Greek restaurant is content to stick with the basics.. In Short
For a traditional taverna experience, enter through the takeout side, past window-front spits with impaled mounds of roast lamb and beef, and ogle the steaming stainless steel trays of stuffed vegetales, potatoes and moussaka before you are seated. Souvlaki's been here for two decades and it popularity--despite fairly inhospitable service--has only grown with time. The titular souvlaki sliced into sandwiches or on a platter is a favorite choice.
