In Short – Sunny pastel colors lend a Mediterranean trattoria feel to the two dining rooms. White linens on the table are soon covered with large plates of food, while attentive servers makes sure your water glass is always full. This is the kind of place where they still call tomato sauce "gravy" and they don't skimp on the portions. Osso buco, served with vegetable risotto, is tender and hearty--worth having even in the summer.
A cute old fashioned Italian place
by Kittar
My husband and I came here for a lovely eveing just the 2 of us to enjoy our anniversary and we had a splended time. The food was authentic and warm and served on time. They give you very big portions and the price wasn't too bad either. The atmosphere was delightful and old worldly. The bar was a bit expensive I would advise byob. The servers were ok but nothing above and beyond. All around it was a great evening out the veal was amazing and my husbands muscles were delious. We had a wonderful time and would love to go back and here more stories about this historic place.
Bring a Lot of Chash

I went here with business associates. The food was fantastic and the service was quite attentive. That said, the restaurant takes NO CREDIT CARDS. The no credit card policy brings this from a 5 star to 3 because the food is in no way cheap. Not taking credit cards is a big inconvenience. Parking is a pain but they do provide a valet (not very fast but he did park the car).

Okay, so I was staying next door to the restaurant in a B&B, and I'd read about the Nicky Scarfo Jr. mob "attention" (unsuccessful, I might add) on Halloween 1989, so I wanted to experience a true South Philly Italian eatery with a "past". I got over that quickly once I sat down. The wait staff was attentive without being obtrusive, and my $34 (including salad, pasta, and one wine) got me two dinners' worth, and a good dinner at that. Personally, I don't get too excited when someone calls pasta sauce "red gravy", as long as it's good. And this certainly was good. Soft music in the background and an Italian "undercurrent" (or was that my imagination?) lent themselves to a very nice experience. Naysayers and purists aside, this one is worth a trip.
- Pros: ambience
- Cons: parking could be a problem
