Editorial Review for Fitzwater Cafe – by Lauren McCutcheon
In Short
Disguised by a box-like exterior, Bella Vista's prettiest cafe doubles as a pastry and pasta kitchen for sister restaurant, Saloon. Still-warm banana and chocolate-chip muffins, and gigantic, gooey cinnamon buns stand out among the baked goods. Heartier morning options include a fluffy, roasted red pepper omelette, perfectly crisped home fries, thick slices of homemade toast and freshly squeezed juices. At lunch, simple grilled vegetable and Caesar salads satisfy, though the "PLT" sandwich.

This is a small, quaint cafe with a tin ceiling and a long cream bar. The pretty interior, which looks recently renovated with attention to preserving old fixtures and details is a surprise since the exterior is a basic boxy building. It is a small cafe, but very well-appointed. It took just 5 minutes to get a table for 3, which is the shortest I have ever waited in Philly for brunch. The food was delicious - freshly prepared and warm, coming right off the skillet. I had the french toast with bananas and coffee - I could only finish half the toast but it was super and indulgent. My friend had the goat cheese omelet with zucchini and peppers. It was savory and flavorful. Somehow, we weren't charged for the coffees and fresh ojs - maybe they came with? Each brunch menu item was from $5 to $10, so very reasonably priced for the gorgeous setting, short wait, and delicious food. Would come back again and again, esp b/c parking was easy with a couple of spaces at the place and no restrictions on the public parking which was safe and easy to come by.
Pros: Tin ceilings, flavorful food, charming service
Cons: exterior doesn't do the interior justice.

Best place for a relaxing weekend breakfast! Quaint little atmosphere. They have a fantastic fruit bowl, which was good since then I didn't feel so guilty about ordering their yummy banana muffin. Weekend specials are always awesome - like Italian eggs or Caprese-style omelettes or french toast with bananas and nutella or fruit. I tried a lot of breakfast joints in Philly before finding this one and my search is over. Fantastic pastry case too in case you're looking for something to go.
Pros: excellent food, friendly staff, charming atmosphere
Cons: no waiting area
