Horrible Service and Underwhelming Food. We were celebrating a birthday dinner at Core de Roma. Attracted by high scores on many websites, we traveled quite far to have dinner there. Let me warn you, it did NOT live up to its scores!!

We arrived 4 minutes past our reservation time and were told we would have to wait a few minutes for our table. It took THIRTY minutes to get our table. When we approached the manager about it, he got angry and was INCREDIBLY rude. He told us "there's the door! leave if you want!". As we were being seated, the waiters were setting the tables and actually threw the plates down in front of us. Nothing was done to make up for our wait.

I was also excited to have the food as it had been given good reviews. There were plates of beans to start that were actually quite delicious. The artichoke dish I had read so much about beforehand was just alright. My pasta dish was very mediocre.

All in all, very underwhelming food and service that left us shocked in horror!

Mediocre Italian. Citysearch editor Lauren McCutcheon got it right, look in the window and walk on to eat somewhere else. Service was fair at best, had to continually ask for water. Food came out randomly yet cold when it got to the table. Restaurant was less than half full, so service should not have been a problem. The only positive note was an artichoke appetizer.

My dining partner could not finish her pasta because it made her stomach queasy. I tried and found it cold and pasty. Unfortunate experiment when there are other good options for Italian nearby.

Editorial Review by Lauren McCutcheon. Stick to window shopping at this mediocre South Street Italian bistro.

Great Italian at a great price. Not sure what happened when the Citysearch editors went in, but I'm as picky as anyone about Italian food, having lived in the North End of Boston. San Carlo is very good, and at a very good price. Their sauces (which I consider to be the most important thing) are right on. I've had bolognese and alfredo and both have been very good. The antipasto was fresh and very good. Several others I've recommended San Carlo to have also enjoyed it. There's also a very romantic feel to this place.

Great food, great price. I went here a little while ago with my girlfriend, who i might add is very picky with her food. Both of us however enjoyed this resturant very much. I dont know why it has such a low rating--the food is excellent. The price is also great, with entrees in the 9 to 15 dollar range. The bread served at the beginning was great, with garlic beans on the side. Try the "three P's" entree -- absolutely magnificient. The gnocci is great too. The tiramisu, however, has way too much cocoa on top. Overall, a great experience. I will return.

Philly Service-NYC quality food. my guest and I waited over 1/2 hour to be seated. I wasn't offered a drink on the house for such a long wait. When it was time to seated I was given a choice of tables which was nice. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgable. After the specials were rambled off, the waitstaff seemed to have gone into hiding. As a I was eating the soup I realized my guest and I didn't have a napkin and NO bread. Hmm? I walked up to the bar and kindly asked for "linens" and bread. the waitstaff seemed very overwhelmed by the abundance of diners. The entrees arrived quickly and piping hot. Great presentations and portions. I had to ask for bread again. The water glasses were empty for awhile too. Great entrees. No grease, not salty or oily. Nice dessert list. It took a while to pay the bill.

Best place on South.... This place has got to be the best restaurant on and around South Street. The food is amazing (all bought at the market) and so reasonable!!!! My favorite little spot in the area. Always great service and you are never rushed along. Always recommended.

Don't bother. The food here is mediocre at best, the service, in a word, stinks; example, we had a party of ten and our food came out in dribs and drabs, then when one person in the party said something to an assistant server who was taking care of our table, his reply was, " hey, I do not cook the food, I only deliver it". Needless to say the tip reflected this. It was so bad that my wife ordered a filet special, and she likes her meat well-well, we told them to butterfly the meat and it still came out red inside, and as testiment to how bad things were, the sent back food came to the table the same time my entree was finally served.

A Great Find. The staff is wonderfully friendly and attentive. The food is marvelous. The prices are reasonable. The pasta is homemade. All in a wonderfully cozy atmosphere. And it's BYOB M-Th. What else could you ask for. Also they have the best stuffed veal chop I've ever tasted.

Surreally good!. Having been sent here by my boyfriend's friend, I did not know what to expect. Italian restaurants are often a dime a dozen, but this one stands out for magnificently prepared food. The flavors were perfect and the chicken magnificently tender and juicy. The real delight, however, was dessert. We shared pineapple sorbet which was perfectly smooth and served in a carved out pineapple! The top was lying beside the body of the pineapple and it looked like material for a Dali painting of the best sort. Another notable feature? Reasonable prices!
