Editorial Review for Beau Monde – by Lauren McCutcheon

In Short
This bustling bistro brings cozy elegance to a busy corner. Gilded mahogany panels with etched branches adorn walls. A mosaic-inlaid gas fireplace warms chilly nights, and an elevated sidewalk cafe offers the shade of big white umbrellas on warmer days. The menu features a long list of paper-thin savory (buckwheat) and sweet (flour) crepes. Never-fail combinations include ham and Gruyere cheese, ratatouille and andouille sausage.

I was there this past Sunday (5/18/08). I had no use for the entire experience; the food was pretentious and disgusting. But the hostess working the shift was an absolute goddess. I'll describe her from the head down. She was wearing a jazzy little hat. Her hair was blonde, with obviously brown roots, so what. Her face: very pretty, made up to make her look doll-like, idyllic. Yet her facial expression was consistently dour; she smiled once in the entire time I was there and it quickly disappeared. Moving downward; a swan-like neck gave way to the most spectacular bosoms I've ever seen. They were simply huge. And her top, a grey long sleeve T-shirt with a dangerously plunging neck-line, further cut into the bosom; it was to where you could see the trim of her brown bra hugging her breasts. I could not stop looking; I kept thinking "I can basically see her breasts" - yet her nipple area was still tucked away. That's how big her breasts are; they gave me a long view but still more was left to the imagination. Moving past her top she was also wearing a tight black vest, accentuating how despite all the firepower she was packing upstairs, she still had a fairly tapered waist. She was wearing tight black pants. What a girl. What a WOMAN. I could not stop staring at her the entire meal; I was mercilessly seated at the end of a table facing her. She seemed to know I was endlessly checking her out and looked at me some; she may have been irritated, but I do not care. I didn't like that restaurant but I liked her. I felt like I was in a dream-like state the entire meal merely from viewing her.

I absolutely love this place. It's by far my favorite restaurant in Philly. The atmosphere is wonderful, the food-no matter what you order- is absolutely delicious, the service is good (and i'm very picky about this), and the prices are reasonable. Go with a date or a group of friends and it won't fail you. I'm a vegetarian and there are plenty of choices for me and meat eaters alike. There's a dance place upstairs as a bonus for those going on the weekends that want to party after dinner. I give this restaurant the highest recommendation I can!
