In Short
It's a neighborhood watering hole-meets-DJ lounge-meets-sports bar. TVs are usually tuned to sports; for the internationally inclined, a schedule near one television outlines the world schedule for the week. DJs come in after 10pm, Wednesday through Saturday. The smaller bar upstairs has a board for English darts and serves both busy weekend nights and private parties; there's also a small outdoor patio in the back.

I'm puzzled by pnative's negative review of O'Neals. As one of the most regular of the regulars, I can tell you authoritatively that it is NOT a white trash crowd. It is a diverse crowd. When I learned of pnative's comments I was sitting with a group of regulars that included an architect, a retired union executive, several people with their own businesses, an Ivy League educated lawyer, and a high school principal. Everyone in this group has a second home either at the shore, Thailand or Mexico. This is just a random group of the regulars and if by white trash pnative meant blue collar, then there are plenty of regulars who are blue collar as well. The beautiful thing about this bar is that everyone is welcome regardless of whether you wear a suit, wear tattered jeans, are covered with tattoos or whatever. No one cares how you make your living as long as you are a good person to drink with. If pnative wants a white collar only bar, may I suggest Rittenhouse Square. I've never seen a customer treated rudely here unless he or she richly deserved to be. Greasy food? I've eaten almost everything on the menu and always been pleased. It is not a gastro-pub, but everything they make is made very well.
Pros: Great beer selection; great crowd; great place to watch a game

Since I lost my idiot to English dictionary last week I didn't know that "white trash bar" was now the idiot term for a racially and ethnicaly diverse bar with people from every social class. From the group from the Philly DA's office in last Saturday night, to the various union tradesman, to the hip hop crowd, to the skateboarders, to the Rugby team and darts players who frequent this corner bar the only commonality is a desire to be themselves and have a good time. Let's face it O'Neals is an Irish bar that has at least a half-dozen regulars from England!!!! I don't know where "pnative" is from but if he got "rude" service he must have deserved it. The bartender/waitress staff is phenomenal - and at least on the female side outstanding looking too. I'll leave it to a female reviewer to comment on the men. As someone who has probably tried every item on the menu I can tell you the Irish stew and chili are excellent and perfect for this time of year. The wings and chicken tenders are very good and the sampler plate with wings, tenders, fries, and pierogies can't be beat for about $8. O'Neals is the kind of bar that if you only visit Philly once or twice a year you are always going to stop back because the crowd and staff don't turnover ever two weeks and once there you want to come back and see old friends you may have only met once.
